Meeting Minutes
Commissioners present: Linda Elliott, Pat Gallagher, Patricia Judd, Leslie Moore, Tanya
Rottle, Laurel Siegmund, Councilmember Rich Wagner. Commissioners absent: Kristen
Brock, Lela Brugger, Nancy Colson, Amanda Flanery (excused)
Staff present: Laurie Rose, Cultural Arts Manager, Megan Myers, Cultural Arts Specialist,
Dana Hinman, Communications Manager
Call to order: President Linda Elliott called the meeting to order at 4:35 p.m.
Approval of Minutes, Introductions
Due to lack of a quorum, the January minutes will be approved at the regular April
meeting.
Ms. Elliott introduced Dana Hinman, Communications Manager for the City. Ms.
Hinman will be a liaison with the Mayor's office regarding planning for the Arts
Commission's the 25th Anniversary celebration in 2009.
II. Committee/Panel Reports
Chair Report: 25th Anniversary Celebration Discussion
Ms. Elliott reviewed ideas for the 25th Anniversary put forth by the Arts Commission in
past meetings. Discussion followed. Ms. Hinman will review discussion with the Mayor.
Membership Committee Report
Commissioner Leslie Moore reported that the Membership Committee is seeking to fill
2 vacancies on the Arts Commission and are currently collecting potential names. The
committee has also been discussing ways past members can be recognized as part of
the 25th Anniversary celebration. Cultural Arts Manager Laurie Rose reported that the
Commission will work with Teen Programs to have a Youth Council Member join the
Arts Commission by next school year. The Youth Council Member will be required to go
through an interview process.
Public Art Committee Report
Commissioner Pat Gallagher reported on the progress of the Golf Course Public Art
Project. The panel has had two design meetings with selected artist Susan Zoccola.
Ms. Zoccola is fully developing one concept and a model to bring in front of Planning
and Community Development Committee in April. Mr. Gallagher reported that the
Public Art Committee has been refining the goals and objectives for the program in
order to formalize criteria for future public art projects.
Ex-officio and Council Member Rich Wagner presented on the Community Center
Public Art Project. The architects for the project are familiar with integrated art into

construction projects. An artist selection process will be conducted after the Community
Center plans/schematic is approved by Council.
Staff reported that Tobu Bo, the public artwork by Tom Askman and Lea Anne Lake for
the W. Main Street Improvement Project is in the process of being installed. Three
static verticals are currently installed and the city will complete installation of the 2
kinetic verticals in April. Sandblasting and acid staining of the sidewalk at the
Interurban Trail intersection will take place in May or June, depending on the weather.
Visual Art Committee Report
Cultural Arts Specialist Megan Myers reported on the progress of the Visual Arts
Committee. 22 artists have been invited to apply to show work in the lobby of the
Auburn Ave Theater in bi-monthly, rotating exhibits beginning in March through the rest
of 2008. A selection panel will meet on March 11 to select the work.
The work of Seattle artist Greg Boudreau will be exhibited at the Auburn Golf Course
Clubhouse June 12-August 1. The opening reception will be Friday, June 20 at 7:00
p. M.
The Visual Arts Committee, Staff and White River Valley Museum Staff have been
working together on the first draft of the prospectus and other logistics for the Small
Works Exhibit which is scheduled to take place November 19 to December 15, 2008.
III. Other Business
Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago will be performing at Auburn Performing Arts Center on
March 28" as part of the 2007-2008 BRAVO season. They will be bringing three new
pieces which have received national recognition. They will also be presenting a piece
about the history of jazz dance.
It has been proposed that the Arts Commission's Annual Retreat may not be a
necessary, now that the Arts Commission has broken into subcommittees which meet
on a regular basis. Commissioners are asked to send their thoughts or feedback to
Chair Linda Elliott.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:05 p.m.
