IL Committee/Panel Reports
Chair Report/Action Items
Ms. Elliott called for approval of the addition of a member of the Auburn Youth Council
as a non-voting position, appointed annually through approved selection process by the
Youth Council. Ms. Siegmund moved the position be added to the Arts Commission.
Mr. Gallagher seconded the motion. Motion approved. Cultural Arts Manager Laurie
Rose clarified the Youth Council member filling this new position on the commission
would not start attending until the regular October meeting.
Ms. Elliott called for approval to accept donation of original artwork into the City's Art in
Public Places collection by Auburn artist Joyce Crain entitled, "Bicyclist Near Isaac
Evans Park," which the artist requested be permanently sited in the lobby at the Auburn
Golf Course Clubhouse. Ms. Rottle moved the artwork be accepted as presented. Ms.
Siegmund seconded the motion. Motion approved. Discussion followed regarding the
policy and procedure of accepting artwork into the Art in Public Place Program versus
accepting a gift of art presented directly to the City of Auburn and/or the Mayor of
Auburn. Commissioners requested Staff clarify Bylaw language regarding placement of
artwork for those works accepted into the Art in Public Places program and add policy
language regarding gifts presented directly to the City through the Mayor's Office.
Commission wishes to confer with City Attorney's office regarding issues regarding
quorum and membership size of the commission. Ms. Rose said she would discuss the
issue with City Attorney and have a report for the next regular meeting.

Membership Committee Report
Commissioner Leslie Moore reported that a few names were submitted for
consideration of potential new commission members. Ms. Elliott reviewed a past list of
names with the commission and assigned members to contact those on the list to see if
they would be interested in serving on either the commission or one of its committees.
Ms. Rottle and Councilman Rich Wagner requested Staff create a packet of print
materials that demonstrate all the programs the commission advises on as a recruiting
tool. Ms. Rose requested commission members aggressively recruit new members that
could be approved/appointed by Mayor Lewis in July.
Public Art Committee
Mr. Gallagher asked Ms. Moore, Commissioner Patricia Judd and Ms. Rottle report on
the selection panel for the Community Center Public Art project. Ms. Moore reported
three artists out of 28 that applied were selected to be interviewed for the project.
Discussion followed regarding the panel process. Mr. Gallagher asked the committee
convene in two weeks to continue work on the definition of Public Art in Auburn
document and to discuss upcoming projects with Planning Staff.
Visual Art Committee
Ms. Siegmund has assumed the chairmanship of the committee. She reported she met
with Staff regarding planning progress on the Auburn Good OI' Days Juried Art Show,
upcoming small works show with the White River Valley Museum, and the special
exhibit and reception for artist Greg Boudreau at the Auburn Golf Course Clubhouse.
Commissioners were asked to invite guests to the reception scheduled for June 20.
25th Anniversary Celebration
Ms. Elliott requested the commissioners informally approve event dates for upcoming
Arts Commission 25th Anniversary in 2009. January of 2009 will feature the performing
arts. The BRAVO show will be on January 24th. The Auburn Ave Theater program will
feature a Avenue Kids presentation, as well as other Live at The Ave presentations, to
be announced at a later date. Also, Uniquely Auburn will be presented in January.
March is the official 25th anniversary month. Emeritus and Honorary Members will be
presented to City Council in March. In the summer the commission wants an event that
focuses on Visual Art. An "art walk" along Main St. was discussed. Ms. Siegmund was
asked to have Visual Art Committee follow through and propose an event. In
September the Public Art Committee will present a special reception for all those artists
who have artworks in the Public Art Collection. Ms. Rose announced City
Communications has approved featuring Art in Auburn as the theme for the 2009
Community Calendar. Staff will work with communications on that project.
