COMMISSION
POLICE DEPARTMENT
Solberg reported that with our continuous recruiting process of entry-level police we
have seven oral board interviews scheduled for December 13, 2006 and we also have
twelve new candidates scheduled to take the written test on December 14, 2006. We
have multiple candidates in the background process and we are also in the process of
contracting with additional background investigators to conduct police candidate
backgrounds.
Chief Kelly reported that the Council approved five supernumery (additional) positions
to fill in 2007 and anticipate additional positions to be approved in 2008. Currently we
have four open Police Officer positions.
Chief Kelly updated the Commission that effective January 1, 2007 we are adding a
second Assistant Chief position that will be filled by Larry Miller; Steve Stocker will be
promoted to Commander; and Brian Williams will be promoted to Sergeant.
FIRE DEPARTMENT
Solberg report that the entry-level firefighter list expires December 16, 2006 and is
eligible for another six-month extension. Chuck Booth moved to extend the entry-level
firefighter list for another six months; Cyril Van Selus seconded; the motion was
approved and carried.
AUBURN ~ MORE THAN YOU IMAGINED
Solberg report that the VRFA (Valley Regional Fire Authority) has agreed to operate
under the Auburn Firefighters CBA which will include the use of the Auburn Civil
Service Commission. The City of Pacific has four full-time firefighters and the City of
Algona does not have any firefighters. Gerber explained that there is no action needed
from the Commission. Starting the January Civil Service meeting they will report as the
VRFA. Beck explained that the VRFA plan has been adopted by the voters (and the
City) and part of the plan includes continuing to use Auburn's Civil Service Commission
