HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-20-1993PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE MINUTES DECEMBER 20, 1993 The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. Those in attendance were Mayor-elect Chuck Booth, Committee Chairman Rich Wagner, Councilmember Don Kurle, and Councilmember Virginia Haugen. Staff in attendance were Traffic Engineer Steve Mullen and Civil Engineer-Traffic Nick Afzali. Guest in attendance was John Raedner. ISSUES A. RESOLUTION NO. 2454, AMENDMENT NO. 4 WITH SVERDRUP CORPORATION FOR PROFESSIONAL SERVICES BETWEEN THE CITY OF AUBURN AND SVERDRUP CORP., FOR FINAL DESIGN WORK AND CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING SERVICES FOR PR 507 - AUBURN WAY SOUTH FROM 4TH STREET S.E. TO SR 18 - BNRR BRIDGE REPLACEMENT City Engineer Dennis Dowdy presented Issue A and provided maps for all attendees. Traffic Engineer Steve Mullen addressed safety concerns related to the unmarked crosswalks; a general discussion was held regarding upgrade of the handicapped areas. Councilmember Don Kurle, being satisfied with the response, made the motion, seconded by Committee Chairman Rich Wagner recommending approval to the Council at their December 20, 1993 meeting. B. RESOLUTION NO. 2453, 1994 PROFESSIONAL SERVICE CONTRACT FOR RIGHT-OF-WAY NEGOTIATOR City Engineer Dennis Dowdy defined the need for a 1994 Professional Service Contract for a Right-of-way Negotiator. Based on the various projects scheduled for 1994 and the need to expedite the process; Councilmember Don Kurle made the motion and was seconded by Committee Chairman Rich Wagner recommending approval to the Council at their December 20, 1993 meeting. CONSENT A. PERMISSION TO ADVERTISE FOR PR 516 - TRAFFIC SIGNAL, AND PR 520 - GUARDRAIL B. PERMISSION TO ADVERTISE FOR PR 511, SIGNAL INTERCONNECT PROGRAM C. VEHICLE SURPLUS AND SALE REQUEST PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE MINUTES DECEMBER 20, 1993 Page 2 A brief discussion was held regarding Consent items A through C. Being satisfied with the response, the Committee recommended approval of the following Consent items to Council at their December 20, 1993 meeting. INFORMATION OR DISCUSSION A. SIGNAL INTERCONNECT Traffic Engineer Steve Mullen gave a brief introduction of the Signal Interconnect; being followed by Civil Engineer-Traffic Nick Afzali demonstrating the program and explaining the possibilities of using the program to its full capacity.
