Present Leslie Moore; Debby Deal, Linda Elliott, Pat Judd, Donna Smart, Nancy Colson, Cary Davidson, David Sader, Greg Watson, Tanya Rottle, Councilmember Rich Wagner, Art Coordinator Maija McKnight, Special Events and Marketing Manager Julie Brewer Excused: Kristen Brock - I. Call to Order, Approval of Minutes, Introductions and Approvaf of Minutes: Chair Leslie Moore called the meeting to order at 4:30 prn. Ms. Moore called for approVal of the March minutes. Commissioner Nancy Colson moved the April minutes be approved as submitted. Commissioner Linda Elliott seconded the motion: Motion appro ved. ll. Committee Reports . Visual Art Commissioner Deal reminded the commission that this year's ArtRageous: Artists in Action Art Fair will occur on Saturday, August 7. Maija,McKnight reported that invitations have been extended to 13 artists selected at the last commiitee meeting. Ms. McKnight noted fhat selections were made with the best end product in mind, diversity of inedium, projects for a variety of ages, as well as ensuring a ; different program ofiactivities from 2009. An overview of the program as a whole can be shared at the July meeting. - Arts Education Maija McKnight announced that Opera in Schools, and outreach program through Seattle Opera will be planned for 2011. The selection of the school will be based the first principal to respond to a invitational email. Commissioner Patricia .ludd and Maija McKnight attended'a presentation at Pacific Ballroom Dance studio with a representative from "Dancing Classrooms" which plans are being made to start in Fa112010 with at least orne elementary school. Additionally, the artists that have their artwork displayed at City Hall Gallery visited an Auburn High School classroom, Diane Sarr's Advanced Drawing Class, and talked about their work and proces5es. Ms. McKnight noted that it is a good connections between prograrn areas and has the potential for additionat student involvement. Public Art Commissioner Greg Watson reported that the Public Art Committee mef with artist Jack Mackie to discuss the artistic plans for the City HaII.Plaza remodeL Discussion continued to the current plans, design ideas; and layout of #he' remodeled plaza: Commissioner Rottle asked about the selection process for the.artist and if this was a"one percent for art project". Discussion continued regarding the policy and the process for this specific project. Maija McKnight proposed a policy overview at the July meeting. Chair Leslie Moore put forward an action item to write a letter to Daryl Faber, Director of Parks, Arts and Recreation and Kevin Snyder, Interim Director of Planning to outline concerns and address specific questions that were raised as part of the discussion. The commission discussed the downtown redevelopment and are excited to have the plaza become a showpiece. Performing Arts David Sader reported that the performing art committee reViewed and made decisions regarding the upcoming BRAVO season and is very pleased with the line-up. Ma. ija McKnight explained some of the reasoning behind selecting various performances and noted that a main focus of the performing arts committee will be to defermine individual marketing plans for reaching new audiences. III. BRAVO Season 2010 - 2011 Maija McKnight provided an overview of the BRAVO 2010-2011 season. Discussion continued to the specific changes that are being made;' namely incorporating performances at the Aubum Avenue Theater, variable pricing based on the each pertormance,- incorporating youth programming to be included in of the marketing brochure, effort for culturally diverse performances, among others. . Contracting and finalizing details are currently being determinetl and the season anno,uncement is . planned for July and the season brochure will be printed in August. IV.
