IV. Correspondence/Public Input
V. Old Business
A. Off Leash Area - will need to get quotes for fencing, water would be a plus, would include checking
with neighbors. Some ideas for "pilot" off leash area:
1. Auburndale Park - has hills, a walking trail, street parking only, no restrooms. Angled parking
would accommodate 20 - 24 cars.
2. Fulmer Park - undeveloped, would need to clear blackberry bushes, is fenced, has parking, is flat,
a few neighbors won't be happy about an off leash area.
3. Game Farm Park - Area where park meets homes or near small child playground. Plenty of
parking on week-days, not week-ends.
4. Roegner Park - Could remain unfenced, no neighbor issues.
5. Fenster Park - Could be perimeter marked, no neighbor issues, 4t" street dead ends at river, no
parking, one neighbor would be unhappy, plenty of folks access river for fishing. Best park for no
fence.
AUBURN *MORE THAN YOU IMAGINED
6. Isaac Evans - Area behind pump building in south end. Restrooms at north end of park, no
neighbor issues.
Les Gove - East of old YMCA building, fenceline of homes to burm, area is under utilized.
8. Behind new fire station (near Texaco on Kersey), retention pond. Folks would have to drive to,
about one acre, needs to be cleared.
B. The board decided on Fenster, Auburndale (fenced), Roegner (fenced), and Les Gove. The next step
in the process is informing council of these choices. Mike Miller added the cost for fencing a '/2 acre
site would be approximately $5,000 with double gate. For a one acre site it would run $8,000.
C. 2010 Year in Review - Director Faber handed out the 2010 Year in Review packets.
VI. New Business
VII. Department Report
A. Pioneer Cemetery - The dangerous trees will be removed tomorrow and replaced with 9 Autumn
Blaze Maples. They take 40 years to reach full growth.
B. Veteran's Memorial Building will be renamed "William C. Warren Building". William designed the
arch at the park, was a member of the American Legion and VFW. William helped get funding to
construct the building at Veteran's Memorial Park. The name change resolution will be going
through council this month.
C. Activity Center/Gymnasium - Currently working on draft agreement with Boys and Girls Club. State
of Washington grant for $800,000 is anticipated based on this agreement. City teen coordinators will
work with the Boys & Girls club to have a teen center from 2:30 pm - 6:00 pm. Activities may
include badminton, pickle ball, birthday parties, dodge ball parties, teen late nights, school district
after school snack program, Artrageous & Kids Day. There will be an a.m. open gym for seniors.
Julie Parascondola asked what pricing will be and Director Faber said cost plus 30 with no
maintenance fees as that is covered under facilities through the City of Auburn. Daryl wants to keep
prices low so folks will participate. Julie stated the prices are much higher in Tacoma. Daryl
responded that Federal Way charges $12 per month.
VIII. Adjournment
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:10 p.m.
