Department staff present were Parks Director Daryl Faber, and Parks Secretary Julie Mehl.
II. Minutes
The minutes of the October meeting were approved unanimously by the Park Board.
III. Committee Member Input
Richard asked Director Faber about the field use for Auburn select soccer teams. The priority is: Auburn
Parks programs, other local programs (such as Auburn Youth Soccer Assoc.), then non - resident teams.
Richard asked if there were plans to develop more soccer fields. Daryl said the YMCA fields may be
converted to turf fields but the cost would be 2.4 million. There is a committee working on fund raising
for the project.
Greg Dobbs mentioned it is very difficult to hear at the Santa Parade. Daryl will inform staff.
Richard asked about the crime that has gravitated to the Lakeland area. Daryl said it is not a noticeable
increase according to Chief Lee.
Richard asked if the City will be allowing more apartment buildings in town. Daryl said the city made the
decision not to allow any more low income housing five years ago.
IV. Correspondence /Public Input
Daryl asked the board to brain storm for the Les Gove Community Campus regarding the high amount of
traffic. Has met with the library and senior center for planning ideas on how to make flow safer and
more efficient. Some ideas would be to close Deal's Way to the museum staff parking, build a plaza with
picnic tables to become more of a pedestrian park. Some ideas: pedestrian lighting, small pond with
canoeing, covered stage, plaza with better lighting, regular maintenance, new rest rooms, install lighting
all the way around the walking path, more police presence, covered skate park, shuttle service for large
events. Laura asked about the updated playground equipment on the south end of the campus. Daryl
stated they are in the decision making process, they may build a road, or install a sand volleyball court.
Laura thought that would be good, geared a little toward the older kids. Daryl would like to also have a
zip line through the trees.
Miles Sand & Gravel sold to the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe.
David asked if the community center has a timeline. Daryl shared that two grants have been submitted
to the Veteran's Administration ? and Human Services. The hope is for the community center to be a
°one stop shop" for the Auburn Food Bank, Auburn Youth Resources etc. AYR owns

VII. Department Report
Director Faber handed out the August Parks Department Monthly Report so the board would be informed
as to what goes on in the Parks Department throughout the month.
The Auburn International Farmer's Market had their 16 week season with NO RAIN! They averaged 50
vendors (up 10% from 2011), $150,000 in sales, marketing grant through King Conservation District of
$10,000 - $15,000. They have a wonderful group of dedicated and hard working volunteers as well as
an advisory board. Ciscoe Morris made a special appearance this year to a large and happy crowd. Greg
asked if the location was good — Daryl believes it should be at the community center so they can utilize
indoor and outdoor space. The city is trying to get more folks to come downtown.
The Auburn Golf Course and the Auburn School District are working on an agreement for golf course
usage as the course struggles to meet it's financial demands. Other cities charge schools a minimal fee.
We pay $17,000 per year to use the Performing Arts Center (they need to charge for lighting and stage
hands).
