President Kim Perry called the meeting to order and asked that the minutes be reviewed. A motion was made and seconded to accept the minutes as mailed. The motion passed. Kim asked board members a mixer question regarding sweet vs salty delights and then moved on to the Museology 101 segment of the meeting during which Curator of Education Rachael McAlister reviewed the field trip program. Fieldtrips are offered at both the Museum and the Farm during which we see all Auburn School District kindergarten, first, third and sixth grade students, and many out of district and private schools. All told we provide roughly 5500 students a year with a curriculum based fieldtrip experience. II. Committees (Items for Vote *) A. Treasurer Jamie Bothell reviewed the Monthly Financial Statement, the Other People's Money report and our cash reconciliation report. While expenses are higher than income in January, this is typical of this time of year. The board reviewed a re- drafted 2015 budget which included more accurate and increased income from the Halloween Costume Ball, and many smaller changes throughout. After some discussion, the revised 2015 budget was passed unanimously. B. Kim and Rachaela asked key members of the Halloween Ball committee to speak with the board at large regarding key ideas for improving the Ball in 2015. Bill Sundvqist noted that the Ball could be more profitable if an emcee worked with the audience to increase bids, on a live auction and over a longer period of time. Ronnie Beyersdorf reminded board members that guests need to come to the event expecting to bid on and purchase items, and to help with that he suggested that a menue of larger items be developed and promoted well prior to the event. Kim noted that the committee wanted to make sure basket themes were not repeated, that items of varying value be present, and after discussion it was decided to remove the BY IT NOW option. C. Joan Mason and Hilary Pittenger shared information from the recent Collections Management Committee meeting. Among the items the committee recommended be taken into the collection area beauitifully restored An Illustrated History of the State of Washington by H. K. Hines, 1893 and a new publication, Up From the Ashes: Notion Building of Muckleshoot by Bruce E. Johansen & Willard Bill, Sr., 2014. The full list of Collections Committee recommendations will be attached to these minutes for the record. Motion Passed III. Director of Parks, Arts and Recreation, Daryl Faber joined the meeting to lead a discussion about proposed changes to Les Gove Park. He noted that a Community Center will be built adjoining the Parks Arts and Recreation building and open in late 2016. At the same time the Park itself will be enhanced with additional walkways, parking and lighting. He is happy that the board is considering a Museum renovation to move the public entrance to face the park and enliven it with art and gardens. Special guest, architect Alan Keimig presented some sketches of how the Museum could be altered to moved the entry to the east side of the building. One of the difficulties is that the Museum is just under 10,000 square feet, the threshold for when sprinkler systems are required. This severely limits the amount of space that can be added to the building for a portico or new foyer. The board thanked Alan for his gratis work and asked if staff could work with him to take the drawings to the next level of detail. IV. Kim adjourned the meeting at 2:55 after a brief around the table review.
