RIGHT-OF-WAY VACATION PROCESS
Submit a right-of-way vacation application to:
Dennis Selle, City Engineer
C/O Amber Mund, Engineering Aide
Public Works Department
City of Auburn
25 West Main
Auburn WA 98001
2. Once the City receives your right-of-way vacation application, it will be reviewed by
Public Works staff to determine what additional steps are needed to move forward
with the process. We will notify you of these additional steps by email or letter.
3. Once all the additional information is received by the City, staff and private utility
companies will review the request, and a staff report will be developed for review by
the Public Works Committee, which meets twice a month. You will be notified of this
meeting. If the Committee recommends that the City Council should set a date for a
public hearing, the hearing will be held within 20 days of the Council's decision (the
Council meets twice a month, on opposite weeks of the Committee). A notice of
public hearing will be advertised in the newspaper, posted in three locations in the
City, and sent to you and owners of property adjacent to the property proposed to be
vacated.
4. At the public hearing, your application materials and the staff report will be reviewed
by Council and the public will be invited to comment on the request. Sometimes, a
vacation request is approved contingent upon certain conditions being met. These
conditions will be set forth in the ordinance approving the vacation, and the
ordinance will not be recorded with the County until the conditions have been met.
5. If you have questions as to the status of your particular request, please contact
Amber Mund, Engineering Aide, at 253.804.3120.
PLEASE NOTE: The whole right-of-way vacation process takes approximately
four to six months if no problems arise and if all information is received in a
timely manner.
