Josie Emmons reported that the ceremony recognizing the Natsuhara
Family at Pioneer Cemetery is May 21 at 3:00. All of the Commission is
invited. Deborah Mersky, the artist who created the fencing panels and
archway and the City are not in agreement with regards to the quality of
the installation. The City has not accepted the artwork. A resolution is
being sought.
Josie Emmons reported that the Commission's desire to include a musical
theater or well-recognized performer on the series was problematic.
Village Theatre's production of My Fair Lady will not be coming to
Auburn: Village is scheduling all of its additional season in Everett. The
touring production of West Side Story is only available for one evening and
is too big to move into the PAC with reason. Staff played the CD of a
potential performer: BJ Ward. She does a show called Stand Up Opera.
Some of the Commissioners expressed delight with the program, others
did not enjoy it at all. Discussion followed. Staff then suggested Total
Experience Gospel Choir teamed with another spiritual singer on the same
billing. Questions of Church and State arose with the consensus being
that this program celebrated a genre. Some Commissioners expressed a
desire for a tap program with the realization that Riverdance or Tap Dogs
would not be feasible. At the end of the discussion, Commissioner
Sprenger moved that the Commission support the staff for artist selection
for the BRAVO! series recognizing that staff will make its best efforts to
book the types of artists that the Commission has expressed a desire for.
Motion was seconded by Commissioner Dodsworth.
