MINUTES
Commissioners present: Herman Ansingh, Paul Dodsworth, Bonnie Egbert, Don Gardner, Lynn
Norman, Genie Sprenger and John Stanphill
Commissioners absent: Cheryl Hosking, Steve LePenske, Bobby Medina, Pam Smith, Barbie
Sharrard (all excused)

Chair Paul Dodsworth Called the meeting to order at 4:40 p.m.
I. Introductions and approval of minutes
Chair Dodsworth introduced visitor Roseanne Campagna Roller, a local artist. Susan Sagawa
asked that the February minutes be amended to reflect that Commissioner Barbie Sharrard was
present. Commissioner Herman Ansingh moved that the minutes be approved as amended.
Commissioner Gertie Sprenger seconded the motion.

II. BRAVO! Update
Susan Sagawa said four events remain in the 13-performance BRAVO! season: Peking Acrobats,
April 2, only a few side seats remain in the lower orchestra; Harpist Bronn Journey on April 8;
Clay Martin Puppet Theatre's "King Arthur, April 15; and Radost Folk Ensemble on Mother's
Day, May 14.
The house count for both shows of"Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," March 3
and 4 was 1,116. The ticket revenue covered Encore Playhouse's performance fee.
Ms. Sagawa announced the proposed line-up for the fall portion of the 2000-2001 BRAVO!

Staff sent out applications for Fourth booths to craft and non-profit food vendors and community
groups. Staff will contact the Auburn Valley Arts Association to invite the group back to present
ajuried art show and art demonstrations. A wood carver will also do carving demonstrations.

Old Navy will serve as a festival sponsor again with $1,500 in sponsorship dollars and $500 in
girl certificates. The sponsorship money will support the Kids' Stage and Craft Comer.
IV. Public Art
Ms. Sagawa said the Nancy Evans and Dennis Mce piece is successfully installed at the new
library. The library will host a private reception, Friday, April 14. All commissioners will
receive an invitation. The event is a fund-raiser for the library. The artists will be there at 7 p.m.
The Auburn Symphony will have a table with information about its May concerts. Wednesday,
April 19, is the library's general opening and ribbon cutting. Saturday, May 6, is the grand
opening featuring all-day festivities and entertainment.
Ms. Sagawa said Commissioner Steve LePenske took photos of the artists at work. The
commission will display the photos with text explaining the process of making the public art
piece.in a case at the library.- The library in collaboration with the commission is producing a
brochure with an essay and photos about the piece.
The arts commission's public art committee, Herman Ansingh, Lynn Norman, Cheryl Hosking,
Steve LePenske, Barbie Sharrard and Don Gardner, will meet Tuesday, March 28, at 3 p.m. to
discuss a proposed city banner project.
V. Other business
Commissioner Lynn Norman said the South County Journal has postponed its arts fundraiser,
originally planned for this fall, to next spring or fall. The paper hopes to bring in matching funds
to pay for the event. Organizers are considering hosting the event at the Museum of Flight.
There was no other business. The meeting adjourned at 5:55 p.m. The next regular meeting is
Monday, April 10, 4:30 p.m. in Conference Room 1.
