Susan Sagawa reported that the commission's public art committee selected three artists
to present proposals for the Sound Transit Plaza. The artists are Nancy Mooslin of Los
Angeles, Calif.; Bruce West of Portland, Ore.; and artist team Jean Whitesavage and Nick
Lyle of Seattle. The committee selected Whitesavage and Lyle to present a proposal for
the parking garage. Sound Transit will pay the artists $1,000 each to develop proposals
for the plaza. The artists will present their proposals for the plaza to the commission at
its March 12 meeting. The commission will meet at 2 p.m. to accommodate the
artists' travel. Whitesavage and Lyle will irmnediately start work with the architect on

Park. Once the piece is cast, the graphic artist will begin designing the logo to use on
stationary, signage and for other promotional purposes.

BRAVO! 2001-2002
Susan Sagawa reported on groups scheduled to date.' In all, eight performances will make
up the main stage portion of BRAVO! Due to the popularity of BRAVO! Kids, staff
plans to add two more performances for a total of six BRAVO! Kids shows.
Susan Sagawa attended a meeting of the King County Performance Network last week.
The network serves as a mini-booking conference for King County arts agencies. Block
booking reduces fees and helps artists get multiple shows throughout the area. This
season, the county granted $5,000 to BRAVO! to present artists in the network. The
network is in the process of selecting arts groups for the 2001/2002 season.

Sustained Support Funding
King County has changed its annual deadline for its sustained support funding program:
the deadline for submitting final invoices has moved from December to October.
The commission will receive $12,000 in 2001, which it will re-grant to arts organizations.
Arts in Education
Robin Logan, principal at Gildo Ray Elementary School, requests that the commission
write a grant to King County to receive funding for an arts-in-education program
benefiting Gildo Ray. To receive funding, the school must collaborate with a local arts
agency, such as the commission. Logan would like to work with four artists at the
school. The artists would be from the 2001-2002 BRAVO! Season.
If the commission receives funding, it will work with the school on a pilot- project basis.
If the program is successful, the commission could expand the program to include other
schools in the district in following years.
Commissioner Bonnie Egbert moved that the commission accept Gildo Ray Elementary
School's proposal that the commission seek grant dollars to fund a joint arts-in-education
program. Commissioner Barbie Sharrard seconded the motion.
