I. Introductions and approval of February minutes
Commissioner Bonnie Egbert introduced and welcomed guest Dave Ellison, Evergreen
City Ballet board president, and requested he address the commission during the public
comment period at the beginning of the meeting, as the ballet was not part of the regular
agenda.
Commissioner Herman Ansingh moved the February minutes be approved.
Commissioner Don Gardner seconded the motion.
MOTION APPROVED
Ellison said the ballet hopes to present four performances of"Sleeping Beauty" next
spring with one performance presented by the BRAVO! series. Commissioner Pam
Smith reported on behalf of Cultural Programs Manager Susan Gochoel, who was away
on vacation. Smith said she believed Gochoel had recently offered Evergreen City Ballet
a $10,000 fee plus $2,500 in technical costs for one performance of"Sleeping Beauty" on
the Auburn Arts Commission's 2004/2005 BRAVO! season.
Ellison expressed appreciation for the arts commission's continued support of the ballet
and requested the commission revisit its budget and consider increasing its offer to
previous levels of support to cover the costs associated with launching a full-length story
ballet. For a $10,000 performance fee, the ballet would perform a Friday-evening
performance without the live orchestra, Ellison said.
Commissioners said they preferred a live orchestra. Commissioner Don Gardner
expressed interest in learning the orchestra's cost for a single performance.
