Introductions; Approval of December Minutes Introductions: Cultural Arts Manager Lori Patrick thanked commissioner Bonnie Egbert for her service as 2005 Arts Commission Chair and welcomed 2006 Chair Kristen Brock and Vice Chair Pam Smith December minutes: Ms. Brock called for approval of the December minutes. Commissioner Anne Baunach moved the December minutes be approved as submitted. Commissioner Herman Ansingh seconded the motion. MOTION APPROVED. II. Proposed Auburn School District Levy Ms. Brock introduced guest Linda Cowan, Auburn School District Superintendent. Ms. Cowan reviewed details of the school district's Proposition NO.1: Educational Program and Operations Levy, which will be submitted for vote on the February ballot. III. ADDED AGENDA ITEM: Public Art Ms. Patrick asked to add at this time a report on public art activities. She reviewed the Call for Artists for the integrated public art project at W. Main St. and the Interurban Trail. Deadline for submission is 5 p.m., January 23,2006 for crosswalk treatments and the potential to replace bollards. The Public Art panel review of submissions will be 1 :30 to 4 p.m., January 26 in City Council Chambers. Three finalists will be selected for recommendation to the Arts Commission at the February meeting. IV. 2005 Year in Review Ms. Patrick presented a PowerPoint report outlining the highlights of the City of Auburn Arts Commission's achievements and programs in 2005. V. BRAVO! Marketing Update Cultural Arts Coordinator Laurie Rose reported total BRAVO! ticket sales to date are approximately 78% of the revenue goal for the season. Jan. 9, 2006, City of Auburn Arts Commission Meeting Minutes Page 1 of 2 All three BRAVO! shows in January (Imago Theatre, Tangoheart and BRAVO! Kids' Magician Louie Foxx) have outreach and promotional materials distributed, including press releases and calendar notices. Sales for all three are strong. Ms. Patrick reported the final revenue for FY2005 came in slightly under FY2004. However, the reduced revenue is not an accurate comparison of ticket sales between the two fiscal years. In FY2004 there were (15) BRAVO! presentations and only (12) presentations in FY2005. VI. Summer Event Planning: Shades of Summer, Outdoor Cinema, Auburn Idol Ms. Rose reported booking of the concert series is proceeding very well with almost half of the performance dates confirmed. Entertainment for the 4th of July Festival is also proceeding well. Auburn Idol will be included again this year, with auditions held during the Auburn Downtown Association's (ADA) annual Sidewalk Sale and the finalists' contest the last concert of the summer. Ms. Patrick reported four of the concert dates will feature an Outdoor Cinema presentation sponsored by Auburn Regional Medical Center with a fifth cinema presented by Com cast. One of the concerUcinema events will be presented at Sunset Park (with additional funding from Pierce County) and another as part of Good 01' Days festival downtown. The other three will be presented at Game Farm Park's volleyball playfield. VII. Arts Day 2006: February 14 The annual, state-wide Arts Day trip to Olympia is scheduled for February 14. Staff will attend. Available commissioners are asked to join staff to meet and inform Auburn's representatives about the various arts programs in their district, review current issues and encourage continued legislative support. VIII. Other Business Commissioner Nancy Colson announced the Auburn Symphony Orchestra's first chamber music concert is coming up, January 21 at the new Theater at Mountainview.
