II. Staff Report
June Month End Report
Cultural Arts Manager Laurie Rose reviewed the June month-end staff
report.
. The 4th of July Festival was a good event. Attendance was lower than in
previous years (approximately 2000), but vendors reported higher sales
than previous years. The Emerald City Classic Car Club could not
participate this year, so City staff arranged for vehicles to carry dignitaries
in the parade from Scarff Ford and Brewer Chrysler. Miniature golf was an
added activity this year. The community booths were placed with the
arts/craft booths in the "booth grove" on the grass, which worked very well
for all vendors. City staff is reviewing the 4th of July Festival for ways to
revitalize the event and promote increased attendance.
. Summer concerts, movies and entertainment will begin this week and run
through August 18. Further promotion of Auburn Idol auditions by the City
resulted in a number of interested participants and increased enrollment.

. A dance troupe scheduled for BRAVO 2006/07 had to back out of the
season line-up. Staff hopes to fill the vacancy shortly.
. The Cultural Arts Coordinator position has been reorganized to a Cultural
Arts Specialist. The position has been posted and a new search is under
way. Deadline for application is July 21. Staff intends to have the new
Specialist start by the end of August.
III. 2006 Arts Organization Grant
The Arts Organization Grant panel met last month to review and interview
five 2006 applicants. Funds for the Auburn Arts Organizational Grant are
provided by 4Culture's Local Arts Agency Grant Program, awarded to the
City of Auburn bi-annually through a competitive grant process. The Arts
Commission "reg rants" these funds to local arts organizations to foster
growth of arts programs in Auburn. The following are panel
recommendations for funding for 2006:
Terminal Elementary/Missoula Children's Theatre residency $2,500
Trillium Employment Services/Uniquely Auburn $2,000
Auburn Symphony Orchestra/April Concert $5,000
White River Valley MuseumlWWlI Propaganda Poster Art $2,000
Ms. Rose reviewed each grant proposal for commission. Ms. Brock called
for approval of Arts Organization Grant panel recommendation of 2006/07
awards as presented. Mr. LePenske moved the award recommendation
be approved as submitted. Commissioner Anne Baunach seconded the
motion. Motion approved.
IV. Public Art Assessment
4Culture completed its assessment of the City's Public Art collection and
submitted report to staff outlining maintenance recommendations. The
report states that in general the collection is in good shape. Staff will
schedule maintenance for those pieces that need attention and design a
regular bi-annual maintenance schedule to maintain the whole collection.
Mr. LePenske noted the commission needs to review accession/
deaccession policy for future projects. Discussion followed.
V. Other Business
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:05 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Laurie Rose, Cultural Arts Manager
