HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-14-2006 City of Auburn Arts Commission Monday, August 14,2006,4:30 pm Meeting Minutes Commissioners present: Anne Baunach, Herman Ansingh, Bonnie Egbert, Linda Elliott, Amanda Flanery, Pat Gallagher, Barbie Sharrard, Steve LePenske, Pam Smith Commissioners absent: Kristen Brock, Nancy Colson (excused), Don Gardner Staff present: Laurie Rose, Cultural Arts Manager Call to order: Commission Vice Chair Pam Smith called the meeting to order at 4:35 p.m. I. Approval of July Minutes Approval of Minutes Commission Vice Chair Pam Smith called for approval of the July minutes. Commissioner Barbie Sharrard submitted a correction regarding her attendance as excused absence. Ms. Smith asked for approval of the amended minutes reflecting the correction. Commissioner Herman Ansingh moved the July minutes be approved reflecting correction. Commissioner Anne Baunach seconded the motion. Motion Approved. II. Staff Report July Month End Report (Ms. Smith began review of the July Month End Report as Cultural Arts Manager Laurie Rose was delayed 15 minutes at a Public Works Committee meeting.) . Summer concerts, movies and entertainment program concluded last week. Average attendance was over 200 people for both the evening concert/movie events and for the Kids' Wednesday events. The Sunset Park event went very well and the Jazz on the Commons had a larger audience than in years before. . Auburn Idol auditions had 26 adults and children sign up to be considered for the finalists' concert later this week (August 18). Despite the heat, many people attended the auditions. Seven adults were selected to compete and three children for the title of Auburn Idol and Auburn Idol Jr. The Auburn Reporter published a cover-feature article about Auburn Idol auditions on its Aug. 2nd publication. Shakespeare in the Park's presentation of "Much Ado About Nothing" on July 30 at Game Farm Park Amphitheatre had approximately 140 people attending. This event was sponsored entirely by ArtPatch (a partnership between King Co. Health and Cornish College for the Arts) and produced by Green Theatre. The theatre company expressed interest in returning to Auburn next summer for two performances of another Shakespearean comedy. . The Cultural Arts Specialist position has been filled. The new staff member, Megan Myers, will start August 21. . BRA va brochure is at the printer and will be in homes by August 18. (Ms. Rose was excused to attend the Public Community Development Committee meeting to present the Public Art Assessment report by 4Culture and approval of Resolution 4077: Artist Agreement for the W. Main Street Public Art Project). III. Auburn Avenue Theatre Due to Ms. Rose's absence, the staff report and discussion regarding the Auburn Avenue Theatre will be tabled until the September meeting. IV.
