Meeting Minutes
Commissioners present: Herman Ansingh, Anne Baunach, Kristen Brock, Linda Elliott,
Amanda Flanery, Pat Gallagher, Steve LePenske, Barbie Sharrard, Pam Smith
Commissioners absent: Nancy Colson (Excused)
Staff present: Laurie Rose, Cultural Arts Manager; Megan Myers, Cultural Arts Specialist; Jim
Kleinbeck, Theater Operations Coordinator
Call to order: Commission Chair Pam Smith called the meeting to order at 4:33 p.m.
I. Approval of Minutes, Introductions
Ms. Smith called for approval of the February minutes. Commissioner Anne Baunach
moved the February minutes be approved as submitted. Commissioner Herman
Ansingh seconded the motion. Motion approved.
Introductions
Ms. Smith introduced Mayor Pete Lewis, Councilmember Lynn Norman, Theater
Consultant Steve Wright and future Commissioners Lela Bruegger, Patricia Judd,
Tanya Rottle, Laurel Siegmund, and Leslie Moore.
II. Arts and the City of Auburn
Mayor Lewis described the 2016 Vision for the City regarding economic development,
preservation of historical buildings and the extension and revitalization of the downtown
core. Mayor Lewis presented the Vision Map and discussion followed regarding these
changes as they pertain to opportunities for the public art program and the Auburn
Avenue Theater.
III. Committee/Panel Reports
Membership /Policy Committee
Ms. Baunach reviewed recent progress on the development of policies concerning
membership terms, responsibilities and expectations of Commission members, and
internal procedure. Ms. Baunach presented membership term policy to the commission
for approval. This policy states that:
Term Limits
o Members are appointed to a 3 year term but no term limits currently apply.
Committee recommends a 2-term limit, at which time; a member will step off the
Commission but will be encouraged to stay involved through committees,
panels or as a volunteer. After one year, they may reapply to serve on the
commission again.
o If a new member fills an unexpired term, they will complete that term plus two
full 3-year terms, if they wish.

o For those currently on the commission who have been members longer than
two terms, they will be invited to complete their current term and then will be
asked to step off the commission. As with other members who have finished
their two terms, they are invited to reapply for the commission after one year.
Ms. Smith called for approval of proposed policy. Ms. Baunach moved that this policy
be approved as submitted. Dr. Ansingh seconded the motion. Motion approved.
Ms. Baunach explained that this updated bylaw will be submitted to council for
recommendation along with the other bylaw updates as a single package later this
year.
IV. Visual Arts Committee
The first Visual Arts Committee meeting took place. The next meeting has been
scheduled for Thursday, March 29th from 5:00-6:00 p.m. Committee Chair Steve
LePenske reported the committee is currently working on a vision statement and
interviewing people in the community to find out citizens' interests and needs in terms
of a visual arts program.
V. Staff Report
BRAVO
Ticket sales for the 2006-2007 BRAVO season are on target and meeting goals.
Auburn Avenue Theater
The city has contracted Theater Consultant Steve Wright to produce a business plan.
Olympic Sculpture Park
The Arts Commission will take adocent-led tour of the Olympic Sculpture Park in Seattle
to actively continue their education about public art and arts programs. The tour will
provide information on history, planning, environment, funding and other issues
regarding public art.
Artist Reception
An artist's reception for Seattle abstract mixed-media artist Don De Leva will be held on
Wednesday, March 28 from 4:30-6:00 p.m. at Auburn City Hall Gallery. Commissioners
are encouraged to attend this event. De Leva's exhibit will run from March 19th until April
13th
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 5:58 p.m.
