Meeting Minutes
Commissioners present: Herman Ansingh, Lela Brugger, Amanda Flanery, Tanya Rottle,
Pam Smith, Councilmember Rich Wagner
Commissioners absent: Nancy Colson, Linda Elliott, Steve LePenske, Barbie Sharrard
(excused)
Staff present: Laurie Rose, Cultural Arts Manager, Megan Myers, Cultural Arts Specialist
Call to order: President Pam Smith called the meeting to order at 4:32 p.m.
Approval of Minutes, Introductions
Ms. Smith called for approval of the September minutes. Commissioner Herman
Ansingh moved the September minutes be approved as submitted. Commissioner
Kristen Brock seconded the motion. Motion approved.
Committee/Panel Reports
Public Arts Committee
Commissioner Pat Gallagher reported for this committee. Gallagher met with staff in
lieu of a committee meeting to review an outline for long range planning with the goal of
focusing on City capital projects 3-5 years out. During the course of 2008, the Public
Art committee will divide into two sub committees in order to develop a 1-2 year plan
and a 3-5 long range plan.
Ms. Brock reported on the review panel process for the Auburn Golf Course Public Art
Project that took place on September 18th. Mr. Gallagher reported on the next steps in
the selection process, which includes interviewing three finalists on October 15th
Membership Committee
Commissioner Anne Baunach reported for this committee. In January 2008, Vice
President Linda Elliott will move into the position of Auburn Arts Commission President.
Nominations for the new Vice President will be announced by the Membership
Committee at the November commission meeting. Voting will take place at the
December commission meeting. Commissioners are encouraged to start thinking about
who they would like to nominate for Vice President and discuss their nominations with
either Commissioner Baunach or Nancy Colson.
Additionally, several terms on the commission will expire in December and
commissioners are encouraged to begin recruiting for the future. Pat Judd, Leslie
Moore, and Laurel Siegmund will all step on to the commission in January.
Subcommittee chairs will also change in January.

III. Staff Report
Cultural Arts Specialist Megan Myers gave a brief report on visual arts programs. The
deadline for the 2008 City Hall/Cheryl Sallee Gallery submissions was October 1.52
artists applied. A review panel will convene on Oct. 31 to select exhibits for both
galleries in 2008.
Currently, the City Hall Gallery features photography of Auburn photographer Irene
Eggerman, as well as the staff art exhibit. Nine City staff submitted various art works in
both two- and three-dimensional works. The artists' reception is Friday, November 5,
from 4:30-6:00 p.m. Commissioners are encouraged to attend.
Discussion followed regarding alternative dates and times for artists' receptions and
enhancements to these events.
Cultural Arts Manager Laurie Rose gave a report regarding other cultural arts
programs. The deadline for the second cycle of the Arts Project Support Grant is
October 22"d and the panel will convene in November. The opening of the Auburn
Avenue Theater will be on October 25th and Auburn MultiCare will sponsor the event.
Ms. Rose, Ms. Myers and Auburn Avenue Theater Coordinator Jim Kleinbeck will be
attending the Northwest Booking Conference from October 8th-October 11th. BRAVO
kicked off with San Jose Taiko on Friday, September 28th and came in over sales
goals. 553 people attended the event.
III. Other Business
Visual and Public Art Committee meetings in October and November will be changed.
The new dates of these meetings will be October 29th and November 29th. The
December commission meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 4 and hosted by
Commissioner Barbie Sharrard.
Discussion followed regarding the fall retreat and the possibility of moving it into 2008
BRAVO presents ASO Russian Perspective on Saturday, October 13 at 7:30 p.m. and
Sunday, October 14 at 2:30 p.m. Salvage Vanguard Theater will perform The
Intergalactic Nemesis as part of BRAVO on Friday, October 26 at 7:30 p.m. White
River Valley Museum's annual fundraiser will take place on October 27th
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 5:46 p.m.
