WASHINGTON Meeting Minutes
Commissioners present: Herman Ansingh, Lela Brugger, Nancy Colson, Linda Elliott,
Amanda Flanery, Pat Gallagher, Steve LePenske, Pam Smith
Commissioners absent: Anne Baunach, Kristen Brock, Tanya Rottle, Barbie Sharrard
(Excused)
Staff present: Laurie Rose, Cultural Arts Manager; Megan Myers, Cultural Arts Specialist
Call to order: Commission Chair Pam Smith called the meeting to order at 4:38 p.m.
1. Approval of Minutes, Introductions
Ms. Smith called for approval of the March minutes. Commissioner Herman Ansingh
moved the March minutes be approved as submitted. Commissioner Linda Elliott
seconded the motion. Motion approved.
Introductions
Ms. Smith introduced Councilmember Sue Singer.
II. Arts and Auburn Tourism Board
Ms. Singer described strategies for the promotion of tourism in Auburn in a power point
presentation, "Auburn Tourism `Making the Connection." Discussion followed regarding
attractions Auburn has to offer as they pertain to economic development and the City's
cultural arts programs. Ms. Singer said the Tourism Board is working on an event that
will highlight arts events in July.
III. Chair's Report
Monthly Meeting time and date changes
Rich Waggoner has been appointed as ex-officio
councilmember to the Arts Commission. To accommodate councilmembers'
schedules, the monthly arts commission meeting will need to be moved to a more
suitable date. Discussion followed. Membership Committee will finalize options for next
meeting.
IV. Committee/Panel Reports
Performing Arts Committee
Ms. Smith reported on the Auburn Avenue Theater meeting that took place on April 3,
at the Justice Center. 33 community members were present at this informational
meeting, including 5 Arts Commissioners. Speakers at this meeting included Theater
Consultant Steve Wright, Theater Operations Coordinator Jim Kleinbeck, Cultural Arts
Manager Laurie Rose and Mayor Pete Lewis. The meeting served as a public forum to
field questions and discuss the community's ideas for theater programs.

Membership /Policy Committee
Commissioner Nancy Colson presented a draft of a policy regarding Emeritus and
Honorary membership. The committee continues to review other bylaws.
V. Visual Arts Committee
Commissioner Steve LePenske reviewed the progress of the Visual Arts Committee.
The committee intends to have a draft of the vision statement to present at the next
Arts Commission meeting.
VI. Public Art Committee
Commissioner Pat Gallagher reported on the first convening of the Public Art
Committee. The committee reviewed the history of Auburn's public art program as well
as the current West Main project. The committee is working on a vision and purpose
statement.
VII. Staff Report
BRAVO
Ticket sales for the 2006-2007 BRAVO season are on target and meeting goals. The
last performance, Cirque Voila, took place on April 6th with a house count of 865.
Olympic Sculpture Park
Possible dates proposed for the Olympic Sculpture Park trip are May 3, 4, 10, or 11.
Commissioners are encouraged to submit questions for the docent guide.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:10 p.m.
