MAY 22, 2001
The meeting of the Auburn Hearing Examiner was held on May 22, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. in the Council
Chambers of the Auburn City Hall. Those in attendance were as follows:
HEARING EXAMINER: Diane L. VanDerbeek
STAFF: Lynn Rued
Ms. VanDerbeek called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. explaining the order of procedures and swore in
staff and those in the audience intending on testifying.
PUBLIC HEARING:
1. APPLICATION NO. VAR01-0001
Assistant Planning Director Rued presented the staff report. Scarff Brothers Ford has requested
a variance to allow the replacement of two (2) nonconforming signs at its dealership located at
501 Auburn Way North. The signs are nonconforming because they are located too close to other
existing freestanding signs on the property.
Staff is recommending approval of the variance in that it is consistent with criteria outlined in
Section 18.56.100 of the Zoning Ordinance.
HE asked for clarification of the abbreviations used on the site plan and Assistant Planning
Director Rued explained their meaning.
Cai Scarf'f, PO Box 54238, Redondo, WA read the staff report and is in agreement. When the City
redid Auburn Way they undergrounded their utilities and attempted to get others in the
neighborhood to do the same. This makes the area look better. Their dealership is very close to
Auburn Way North and they are limited to what they can do with signs, parking and display.
HE indicated that a witness living across the street asked Mr. Scarff if the signs would be moved
and the site plan indicates that the signs will not be moved and a couple replaced with smaller
signs.
There was no further public testimony and the public hearing was closed.
ADJOURNMENT:
With no further items to come before the Hearing Examiner, the meeting was adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
