ORDINANCE NO. 4 6 0 7
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, AMENDING
AUBURN CITY CODE CHAPTER 10.36 BY ADDING THREE NEW SECTIONS
PERTAINING TO PROHIBITED PARKING ON CITY STREETS OF SEMI-
TRAILERS AND TRAILERS.
WHEREAS, it is becoming a common practice for commercial
operators to utilize the public right of ways within the city
for the parking and storage of semi-trailers and trailers and
their cargo; and
WHEREAS, semi-trailers and trailers are designed and
constructed to be drawn by a motor vehicle in that an
appreciable part of their weight and load rests upon and is
carried by such motor vehicle or truck tractor; and
WHEREAS, the weight of the semi-trailer or trailer and
its load damages street asphaltic surface resulting in
additional and continued street maintenance customarily not
required; and
WHEREAS, the parking of these vehicles and trailers is a
potential hazard to vehicular traffic, especially in the
evening hours, as these commercial vehicles are usually parked
on streets with very little or no illumination.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN,
WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. PURPOSE. The purpose of this ordinance is to
amend Auburn City Code Chapter 10.36 entitled "Stopping,

Standing and Parking", by adding two new sections, Section
10.36.275 entitled "Prohibited parking of semi-trailers and
trailers" Section 10.36.276 entitled "Authority to Impound"
and Section 10.36.277 entitled "Violation-Penalty" to prohibit
the parking of semi-trailers and trailers as defined in "The
Washington Model Traffic Ordinance" and as adopted in Auburn
City Code Chapter 10.04 in the public right of way.
Seotion 2. The City Council hereby adopts new Sections
10.36.275, 10.36.276 and 10.36.277 as delineated in Exhibit
"A" attached hereto and incorporated herein.
Seotion 3. The Mayor is hereby authorized to
such administrative procedures as may be necessary
out the directions of this legislation.

10.36.275 Prohibited parkinq of semi-trailers and
trailers.
It is unlawful for the owner or operator of a semi-
trailer or trailer to park said vehicle on the public right of
way or portion thereof when said vehicle is not attached and
fully engaged onto a tractor used primarily for drawing a
semi-trailer or trailer.
10.36.276 Authority to impound. ~
Any vehicle parked in violation of Section 10.36.27~ may
be impounded by the police department and the cost of such
impounding shall be the responsibility of the owner or
operator of such vehicle.
10.36.277 Vlolation-penalty.
A person who violates any terms of Section
guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof,
fined a sum not to exceed two hundred and fifty
($250.00)
