AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN,
WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING THE EXPENDITURE OF FUNDS, NOT TO
EXCEED TWO MILLION DOLLARS ($2,000,000), FOR THE REPAIR AND
CONSTRUCTION COSTS NECESSARY TO REMODEL THE AUBURN
LIBRARY INTO A SENIOR CENTER.
WHEREAS the City of Auburn senior citizen population, age 55 years old
and up, continues to increase with presently over 8,500 senior residents and an
additional 1,000 senior residents anticipated by 2005; and
WHEREAS the population of the City of Auburn is anticipated to
increase; and
WHEREAS the existing library building, located at 808 9th street
Southeast, is thirty-six years old and in need of structural repairs; and
WHEREAS Miller/Hull Architects have completed Design Development
on the necessary repairs and construction costs to remodel the existing library
into a Senior Center; and
WHEREAS the existing library will be vacated by the King County Library
System in April 2000;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN,
WASHINGTON, IN A REGULAR MEETING DULY ASSEMBLED, HEREWITH
RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1. The total estimated cost for the repairs and construction of
the improvements, provided by MilledHull Architects, was reviewed by Planning
and Community Development Committee on Monday, January 24, 2000 and
the Finance Committee on Tuesday, February 22, 2000, and is estimated to be
Two Million, Seven Hundred Fifteen Thousand and No/100s Dollars
($2,715,000). The City's contribution will not exceed Two Million Dollars
($2,000,000.) with the balance of funds to be raised by capital campaign,
donations from citizens, service clubs, and businesses, as well as other funding
sou rces.
Section 2. The City Council of the City of Auburn hereby authorizes
and approves the expenditure of funds for the repair and construction costs
necessary to upgrade the facility located at 808 9th Street Southeast, Auburn, to
serve as a Senior Center.
Section 3. The Mayor is hereby authorized to implement such
administrative procedures as may be necessary to carry out the directives of
this legislation.
Section 4. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force five (5)
days from and after its passage, approval, and publication as provided by law.
