AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN,
WASHINGTON, ANNOUNCING ITS INTENTION TO AWARD THE
CONTRACT FOR SHORT-TERM DISABILITY INSURANCE FOR DRIVER,
SALES AND WAREHOUSE UNION LOCAL 117 (FINANCE CLERICAL
EMPLOYEES) AND UNAFFILIATED CITY EMPLOYEES, AND LONG-TERM
DISABILITY INSURANCE FOR UNAFFILIATED CITY EMPLOYEES TO THE
STANDARD INSURANCE COMPANY, THROUGH SUPERIOR INSURANCE.
WHEREAS, the City of Auburn currently has an employer-paid short-
term disability insurance contract with UNUM for its unaffiliated employees and
those employees represented by the Driver Sales and Warehouse Union Local
117 (Finance Clerical Employees); and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City to maintain this employer-
paid short-term disability insurance contract; and
WHEREAS, the City would like to add an employer-paid long-term
disability insurance plan to its unaffiliated employee health benefits package;
and
WHEREAS, it is fiscally responsible to periodically "shop" for the best
return on the City's investment; and
WHEREAS, the City sent out a Request For Proposal for the purpose of
reviewing bids to provide the above short- and long-term disability insurance
coverage; and

WHEREAS, the City has reviewed the bids in accordance with the
Request For Proposal; and
WHEREAS, the City finds the bid of The Standard Insurance Company,
through Superior Insurance best meets the City's desires and provides the best
return on investment.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN,
WASHINGTON DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Purpose: The purpose of this Ordinance is to award the
above short- and long-term disability contracts to The Standard Insurance
Company, through Superior Insurance, registered to be business in the State of
Washington, effective January 1,2002.
Section 2. Constitutionalitv or Invaliditv: If any section, subsection,
clause, phrase, or sentence of this Ordinance is, for any reason, held to be
invalid or unconstitutional, the remaining portions of this ordinance shall remain
in force and affect.
Section 3. Implementation: The Mayor is hereby authorized to
implement such administrative procedures as may be necessary to carry out
the directives of this legislation.
Section 4. Effective Date: This Ordinance shall take effect and be in
force five (5) days from and after its passage, approval, and publication as
provided by law.
