ORDINANCE NO.5 9 7 5
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, ADJUSTING
THE SALARY FOR THE CITY OF AUBURN MAYOR
WHEREAS, the City of Auburn is organized as a Mayor/Council form of
government pursuant to Chapter 35A.12 of the Revised Code of Washington
(RCW); and
WHEREAS, as such, the Mayor of the City serves as the chief executive
officer of the City; and
WHEREAS, different than other cities with Mayor/Council forms of
government, the City of Auburn does not employ a City Administrator or City
Supervisor (an administrative official working directly for the Mayor to address
administrative duties and functions), and, in fact, the City of Auburn Mayor serves
in that mayor capacity as a full-time position; and
WHEREAS, in comparison with the salaries available to other mayors in
Mayor/Council forms of government in the South King County Region, it appears
that the salary for the Mayor is lower than that of a number of neighboring cities;
and
WHEREAS, the salary for the Mayor has also, not been adjusted for a
number of years; not withstanding the fact that during the last number of years,
the position of mayor has taken on a number of other responsibilities that have
increased the administrative duties and functions handled by the mayoral
position; and

WHEREAS, the City Council feels that it is appropriate that the position of
mayor be adjusted to address some of the increased work loads and to provide
closer parity with other positions, particularly in light of the amount of work that is
handled by the mayor's position.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN,
WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN as Follows:
Section 1. That the salary for the mayor, commencing January 1, 2006,
shall be adjusted by a 3 percent increase over and above the salary rate that
would otherwise be provided (as included in the 2006 budget document and as
reflective of cost of living increases), so that the monthly salary would be
increased to $9,362.62 per month, reflecting a $265.63 increase per month, after
other adjustments.
Section 2. That this Ordinance shall be a non-codified ordinance of the
City of Auburn.
Section 3. The Mayor is hereby authorized to implement such
administrative procedures as may be necessary to carry out the directions of this
legislation.
Section 4. The provisions of this ordinance are declared to be separate
and severable. The invalidity of any clause, sentence, paragraph, subdivision,
section or portion of this Ordinance, or the invalidity of the application thereof to
any person or circumstance shall not affect the validity of the remainder of this
ordinance, or the validity of its application to other persons or circumstances.
Section 5. This Ordinance shall take effect and be in force five days
from and after its passage, approval and publication as provided by law, and on
January 1, 2006.
