Re: Discussion of the Mayor's Institute on City Design Results
The City of Auburn was fortunate to participate in a 2'/2 day design charrette with the Mayor's
Institute on City Design (MICD) and our three resource team members. After meetings with
Mayor Lewis, city staff, downtown stakeholders, and developers, the resource team spent a 1'h
days putting together their recommendations for the revitalization of Downtown Aubum. Below is
a series of questions from the results of the resource team's recommendations and how those
may be incorporated into the Auburn Junction project.
Questions for the Committee Yes No Comments
1. Does the Committee want staff to move forward
with amending the Aubum Junction design
standards requiring only a two-three story building
on the northern half of the Cavanaugh block if
studied by the developer and found to be
economically feasible to all parties and an
economic draw?
2. Does the Committee want to expand the City Hall
Plaza into a larger civic plaza as recommended
by the MICD Resource Team (professional
architects) if studied by the developer and found
to be economically feasible to all parties and an
economic draw?
3. Does the Committee want staff to review The
design standards done at a macro level?
4. Does the Committee like the concept of removing
parking on the north side of Main Street to create
a wider sidewalk with the availabili for outdoor

seating and pedestrian environment? Parking
would be relocated to another location in
downtown so no net loss of spaces.
At the September 90' Downtown Redevelopment Committee staff would like the Committee to
review and discussion the above questions and provide direction to staff on whether to move
forward on the recommendations provided by the MICD Resource Team.
