ANNUAL SOCIETY AND BOARD MEETING MINUTES
DECEMBER 15, 2006
Board/Society Members Present: Ron Beyersdorf, Jan Cavanaugh, Nancy Colson, Terry Davis, Jean
Farrington, Mike Gerber, Doug Hedger, Michelle Marshman, Larry Miller, Gordy Nishimoto, Judi Roland,
J.B. Rupert
Board Members Absent: Pat Bailey, Mike Harbin, Jr., Dan Harris, Michelle Marshman, May Yamada
Board Members Excused: Doug Hedger, Janice Nelson
Staff Members Present: Patricia Cosgrove, Kristen Bruhahn, Tara McCauley, Janet Wells, Angela Stalgis
Call to Order & Approval of Minutes: President Larry called the meeting to order at 1:30. He asked for
additions or corrections to the minutes from the last meeting. Motion passed as presented.
Chair Reports: President Larry thanked the board for their support for a very good year at the helm. He
has served on the board for 6 years. He pointed out that the Harvest Ball was a big success and that the
Olson Farm is moving forward, with 1.1 million committed and only $500,000 more to go! He also thanked
Rosetta Beyersdorf for a great lunch.
Treasury & Committee Reports: Patricia gave the Treasurers Report noting that although the November
repost shows a ($1627) deficit, that the outcome for December should be positive due to a grant from the
City and donations that come in at the end of the year.
Retiring Board Members: Larry Miller was presented with a photo of hunters with shotguns. Patricia has
a photo of children in front of a one room school for Janice Nelson.
Presentation of 2007 Nominations: Jan Cavanaugh was asked to serve a second term, and Jennifer
Truafler with the Auburn School District, and Lisa Scarff with the Boeing Company were nominated to fill
the other two open Society positions. Michelle Marshman, Warren Kinggeorge and Jean Farrington all
agreed to serve second terms as Mayoral Appointees. Inactive board member Dan Harris's seat will be
filled in early 2007 when an appropriate candidate has been located. This action can be made by the Society
President. President Miller asked for a vote on the nominations as presented and the motion passed.
Following the Society bylaws, the board selected its own officers: President Gordy Nishimoto, Vice
President Warren Kinggeorge, Treasurer Doug Hedger and Secretary Ronnie Beyersdorf.
Open Discussion: Nancy Colson told us that Charles Payton retired from 4-Culture last Friday. She spoke
of what a loss this is. Patricia announced a new design for the newsletter.
The Olson Farm was discussed and many ideas came up. The Eagle Scout's troop cleared the area of the
south bank of the creek. Judi suggested forming a Friends of the Farm group. Tara is working with
Olympic Middle School on growing sword fern, salmon berries, and other native plants for use at the farm.
She is working to develop 4 units of curriculum into the schools. Ronnie suggested selling of bricks for the
entry into the farm. J.B. suggested contacting a retired group of plumbers, electricians, etc that could help
out at the Farm. The capital Campaign will get going after the fir first of the year. A committee will be
formed and the work will begin. The sign issue on Auburn Way is being addressed with Larry and Terry
meeting with AYR to see about using one of their two signs. Board members are asked to volunteer at the
Museum.
