Regular meeting of the City Council of the City o-r Auburn,
held at 8:00 P.M. in the Council Chambers at the City Ha11.
The meeting was called to order by Mayo.r Cldrk.
Due to the lack of a quorum the meeting could not bQ held
and therefore was rescheduled for Wednesday evening April 3, 1957•

The delayed regular meetir.g of the City Council or the City
of Auburn held at 8:00 P.M. in the Council Chambers at the City
~ Hall.
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Clark.
Councilmen present: Hitchcock, Kuehn, Cornwell, Raven ana
Petersen.
Counci_lmen sbsent: Rupert and Stalder

as mailed.
PliBLIC HEARING LID 1W7
The Mayor declared the public hearing open on the assessemart
roll for LID 127.
There being no one speaking for or against the assessment
roll the Mayor declarPd the hearing closed.
It was maved by Cornwell and 2nd by Petersen that the
assessment roll for LID 127 be adopted and the City Attorney be
instructed to prepare the necessary ord.ir.ance. MOTION CARR_IED
MOIdER BIDS
f3ids for supplying the Cemetery Dept. with a new mower were
rece4ved from Valley Feed & r'arm Store quoting $1,117.$2; Ivan
W. Lee and "3ons quoting $1140.00; and Wash. Turf & Toro Co.
~ quoting $1142. $2.
i These bids were referred to the F'urchasing Committee and
-Cemetery 9upt. for study with power to act and report back.
MECCA REQUEST
Councilman Hitchcock reported that the License Committee is
working on the request of the Niecca.
STREET LIGHTS
Councilman Raven reported that the new street lights are
being installed and will be completed in about t,wo months. '
STRBET COMTJIITTEE REPORT
Councilman Petersen reported for the Street Committee re-
commending that the City call for- bids for curb-gutter and street
surfacing on N St. N.E.
" The Mayor asked if there were any other petitions out.
, Street Supt. Blirin said that there are two more peti.tions out
for curb-gutter and street surPacing.
This matter was referred to the City Attorney to check on
how these LID 's could be financed.
BID AWARD
Councilman Petersen repor ted _for tne Street Committee and
Purchasing Gommittee recommending that the bid for supplying
the Ci.ty Street Dept. with a new grader be awarded to Collins
Machine.ry Co . for a Catipillar.
It was moved by Petersen and 2nd by Cornwell. that the re-
commendation of the Street Committee and Purchasing Committee be
accepted and the bid checks of the unsuccessful bidders be

PETITION
A petttion was receiired from Ernest Crane for C. J. nockey
requesting a taxi zonP in f ront of the Scarff Arcade.
Mr. Crane said that he felt the City had unknowingly dis-
criminated against Tv1r. Rockey. He felt that since ur. Rock.ey
had been established in the taxi business befor•e that the Couricil
should grant him one stand.
Conncilman Hitchcock explained why the Licnese vommittee has
adoptea the policy of not allowing an,y taxi zones on lAain St.
Councilman Kuehn said he didn't feel a taxi company COU1d op-
eratA f'rom a side street.
Counci.lman Cornwell felt this matter should be studied
furtrier.
It was moved by Kuehn and 2nd by Hitchcock that this request
f or a taxi zone re granted `'or the remainder of this year only.
MOTION LOST.
ARNDT REQUEST
A l.etter was received from the Auburn Planninz Commission
recommending a change to the zcning Ordinance and that the request
for rezoni.ng of lots lb, 17 & 18, Block 10, Frenchts lst Addn.
be eranted provided the reGOmmended changes to the zoning ordinaoce
are made.
A letter was also received from the City Engineer on this
matter.
Mr. 3C Mrs. Nlosher sa' d the peti-t i on was not suffi yiently
signed by 51% of the property owners.
M.rs. Crouch and Nr. & Mrs. Mosr;',r were instructed to meet
with the C.i_t}T Attorney in order triat an acceptable pet?':!an
could be prepared with provisions for five foot setback on the
side yard and a twenty foat aet back for the front yard. This
new petition is to be circulatpd and presented to the City
Counci.l at their next meeting.
NICPHERSON PRUPERTY
NIr. Emil Bitzer exp.lained to the Council that he had bought
the IVIcFherson property from Mr. McPherson and it was his un-
derstancing that -it would costo abour ~'50.00 per lot, for the SP.WE??^.
The City Attorney rPCOmmended to the Council that the city
give 1Y!rs. Crouch f2.25 Fer foot for the easement which wi-11 make
the cost per lot. 961.50.
It was maved by Hitchcock and 2nd by Petersen rhat the re-
commenaation or" the City tittorney- be acceptPd and that a letter
be sent to 14r. &Mrs. Groucrt st,ating the Council's action.

ATTORNEY nEPORT
The City Attorney reported that the show cause hearing was
held at 1:30 March 27, before Jud e Wright in the Superior Caurt
(f King County case cause No. 50499$ and the court heard cause
brief of_ the City of Auburn and answer of the City of Auburn to
show cause and being fully advised, dismissed the City of_ Auburn
as party defendent in the said suit and granted relief_ to the
plaintiff against other defendents.
BID A1h'ARD
Councilman Kuehn reported far the Water Committee and
Purchasing Committee recommending that the bid for supplying the
n~ city with cast iron pipe and fittings be awarded to Facifi.c
States Cast Iron Pipe Co. and the bid for supplying the city with
fire hydrants be awarded to Pacific h'ater Ttiorks supply Go. for
Eddy Hydrants.
A letter was received from R. K. Calkins, Fire Chief, re-
commending that the city buy the Eddy Fire Hydrant.
It was moved by Kuehn and 2nd by Cornwell that the re-
commendation of the Street and Purchasing Committees be accepted
and the bid checks of the unsuccessful bidd.ers be returned.

DRAKE REQUEST
A letter was received from Miles Drake requesting city water
in the Hi Crest Addn.
Councilman Kuehn reported for the Water Committee sayin g
that water is available at the highway if they want to pipe it
up the hill.
The Water Supt. was instructed to write the Planning
Comsnistion that there is water available.
CASTLE REQliEST
It was moved by HitchGOCk and 2nd by Raven that the request
of J. Castle to build a house at 415 4th St. S.E. be granted.
MOTION CARRIED

Conncilman Hitchcack repm ted that the police car shovld
arrive i-n about a week.
AUBURN DAY COliiv'CIL R.EQliEST
A request was received from the Auburr Day Council requesting
perniissinn to put ctn the Auburn Da}T activities anci a carnival to
be held July 15th thru 20th at the 6th & C St. S.E. property
and that no other carnival or othe.r activities be allowed 30
days prior to July 20th.
• It was moved by Petersen and 2nd by Kuehr, that the request
be granted. M0TI0N CARRIED

Arequest was received from the V. F. W. f or permission to
holri a Carnival from June 17th tnru 22nd.
This request was referred to the License Committee for
study with power to act and report back.
~ PLANNING CONlYiISSIUN LETTER
A letter was received from the Planning Commission re-
commending tnat the request of Gerald Vu'elch's fvr rezoning of
lots 2& 3, Block 5, Bottings 2nd Add.n. together with the vacated
So. 10' of 3rd St. #.E., be grantad.
It was moved by Petersen and 2nd by Hitchcock that the re-
commdnation of the F?annirg Commissions be granted.MOTION CARRIED

Mr. Geo. Martin asked the Counci.l if a heating ordinance
for public buildings couldn't be passed.
This was referred to the City Attorney.
