HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-16-1957FAGE 2192 WA5 APRIL 16. 1417 Regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Auburn, held at 8:00 P.M. in the Council Chambers at the City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Pro-Tem Kgehn. Councilmen present: Hitchcock, Ruehn, Rupert, Stalder, Cornwell, Raven and Petersen. Minutes of the previous meeting held April 3rd, 1957 were approved as mailed. LICENBE COMNIITTEE REPORT Councilman Hitchcock repcrted for the License Committee recommending that the request of the Mecca Tavern for a reductioi in the License fee £or a dance license from $300 per year to $200 per year be granted and that the fee be paid on an anr.ual basis and the City Attorney draw up the necessary ordinance making the recommended change. Councilman Rupert said the committee had checked with the Police Dept. and find that the Mecca is being run satisfactorly. It was moved by Hitchccck and 2nd by Rupert that the re- commendetion of the License Committee be accepted.MOTION CARRIED Councilman Hitchcock r epDrted for the License Committee saying the Committee has contacted the adjutant of the V.F.W. anci they are going to change the date of their carnival and wilL infv3^m the Cour.cil when they choose a date. STREET C01,W1ITTEE REPORT Councilman Stalder reptr ted for the Street Committee re- commending that the city deed their prpperty at the south end of B St. S.E., that Shaughnessy Co. requested, for street purpos The City Clerk read the letter of request from Shaughnessy Co. It was moved by Stalder and 2nd by Petersen that the re*+ commendation of the Street Committee be accepted and the Ctty Attorney be instructed to prepare the necessary ordinance. MOTION CAkRIED STkEET LIGHTS Councilman Raven reported that the new street lights are being exected and the Street Dept. is doing a good job. PARKIN G METERS Councilman Cornwell repated that the new parking meters were installed. ~ VOTH RE U(~ -EST A letter was received from Vernon Voth requesting a 6" main,water, on J St. S.E. to run from 344tr, St. nQrth approximate 165 feet. Thi.s was referred to the Water Committee for study with power to act and report back. ORDINANCE N0. 11$0 It was moved by Cornwell and 2nd by Raven that Ordinance No. 11$0 entitled "An Ordinance of the Cit.y of Auburn, Wash. declaring a public emergency to exist in the City of Auburn and providing for ayment out of the ~tiTater Ftina, of th4 City of Aubur in the sum of J23,514-69, to pay the cost of a sewer line", be adopted with the following roll call vote being recorded, Hitchco yes; Rupert, yes; Kuehn, yes; Stalder, yes; Cornwell, yes; Raven, yes; and Petersen, yes. GARBAGE CONTRACT The City AtGorney reported that according to 5tate Law the garbage cont,ract for a 3rd Class City has ta be renewed annually and this law should be en£orced when the garbage contract is up. PARKING ORDINANCE CHANGE The City Attorney was instructed to amend the Parking Meter Ordinance to change the 24 minute zones to 30 minute zones and rescin d the no parking frnm 4 to 6 P.N. ENGINEER REPORT The Engineer reported that the Rohr sewer line i,s in and a£ter 'the street repairs are made he will submit a final est- imate. BONNEY LAKE REQUEST A request was received f"rom the Town of Bonney Lake re- qUeating the services of our stockman for 1 day a month for at least 3 months. This was referred to the License Committee for study and t , be report back. PAGE 2194 AUBURN. WASHINGTON TUESDAY APRIL 16. 1957 PLANNING COMMiSSION LETTER A letter was received from the Auburn Ylanning Commission recommending the granting of the petition by C. L. Hergert and K. Lane to rezone their property from R 50 to RG situated as lots 9& 10, Railroad 2nd Addn. It was moved by Hitchcock and 2nd by Petersen that the recommendation of the Planning Commission be accepted and the Attorney be instructed to prepare the necessary ordinance. MOTION CARRIED PARK BOARD REQUEST i A letter was received from Geo. Aaby, Park Board Chairman, ` for the Locomotive Committee, recommending that the city property at 6th and C St. S.E. be designated as Park property and a portioi thereof be used for the locomotive offered to the City of Auburn b y the NP Railroad. The Mayor Pro tem asked that this letter be held in abeyance until Mayor Clark returned. AABY REQUEST A letter was received from Geo. Aaby requesting city water at Aaby's First Addn. located just west of the West Valley Highwa . Councilman kupert reported for the Water Committee recommend r, th at the city furnish water to the Aaby Addn. with a 2" line thregh a master meter at the highway and Aaby will have to pump the wate up to his Addn. and Mr. Aaby and Water SUpt. Gosney work out the details. It was moved by Rupert and 2nd by Cornwell that the re- commendation of the Water Committee be accepted.MOTION CARRIED PETITI OIVS Petitions for street improvements and water mains were re- j ceived from the Fr operty owners an $th St. S.E. between H St. _i S.E. and K St. S.E.; H St. S.E ; and bth St. S.E. between D& L St. S.E. ' These petitions were referred to the Street Committee, Finance Committee and City Engineer to check the signatures, the financing and necessary ordinance. PETITION TO REZONE A petition was received from the property owners near E Main and K St. N.E. for rezoning of the property located at lots 160 17 and 1$, Block 10, Frsnch's lst Addn. This petttion was referred to the City Engineer to check the signature and then refer the petition to the Planning Commission. STREET SUPT. REPORT The Street Supt. submitted his monthly report. It was moved by Petersen and 2nd by Stalder that this report be accepted and placed on file. MOTIQJ CARRIED Q,UARTERLY REPORTS j The quarterly reports on Building Permits, and Police Judge 'j operations were reeeived. It was moved by Rupert and 2nd by Petersen that these repcr ts be accepted and placed on file. MOTION CARRIED COURTE-OY PARKING TICKETS REPORT Councilman Hitchcock asked if the Police Chief could subanit a report at the next meeting on the Courtesy Parking Tickets. Vu'EBSTER REQUEST Mr. Roy Webster asked if his offer for sewer had been accepte Councilman Rupert and the City Engineer explained that his o£fer had been rejected because it woul.d cost more than the $1,000 that he had offered. Webster of this action. , AliBURN, WASHTNGTORT TUESDAY APRIL 16 1957 ,Mr, Webster asked that his $1,000 check be returned to him.; CEMETEHY MOWER Councilman Petersen reported that the Cemetery mower was purchased from the Valley Feed &Flmrm Store. TRAi'r'IC PROBLEM Councilman Hitchcock said he has been contacted about the traffic problem on F St. S.E. This was referred to Street Committee for study and recomm- endation and to report back at the next meeting. IIONS RE UEST A verbal request was received from the Lions Club that all male citizens of Auburn refrain from shaving from May 15th until after Auburn Day. The Lions club were instructed to write a letter requesting this. TRASH CANS Councilman S+_alcier asked if the Lions Club are goiIIg to buy trash cans. The Engineer said the Lions Club thought the cans were to expensive but they are checking further. POLICE CAR Councilman Hitchcock said the new police car has been delivered.
