Regular meeting of the City Council of the City o`' Azaburn, held at 8:00 P.i'v1. in the Council Chambers at the City Hall. The meeting was caller to order by Mayar Clark. Councilmen present: Hitcncock, Kuehn, Rupert, Stalder, Raven and Petersen. Councilman absent: Cornwell. hfinut-es of the previous meeting were approved as mailed. PUBLIC HEARING The City Clerk saic3 that the notice for the rublic Heari.ng for the Niead Addn. was not published and asked that; the hearing date be re-set. MOTION CARRIED STREE`1' CUn'IIti2ITTEE REPQFiT Councilman Stalder reported for the Street Comr:;irtee saying he had talked with the City Treasurer and he said he could buy the warrarits on the paving o4' the alley betwEen 1st and 2nd 5t. NE from Aubur-n Ave to CSt. N.E. It was moved by Stalder anc° 2nu by Raven that the request to pave this alley be granted an,,1 the City Attorney be instructed ta prepare the necessary Ordinance. MOTION CARF;I U Waldo Carlson, Mgr. and Secretary:o-r the Chamber of Commerce submitted a letter in which the Chamber asked several questions about the Business Licenae. The Mayor said this'letter would be considered. ~t Councilman Raven asked if thi_s was "a letter or protest? Mr. Carlson said"no it was just asking questions:' Councilman Kuehn said he had a report from the Assn. of Wash. Cities that said that``a majority of the towns and cities in Wash. had some type of business tax or license:' Mr. Kasper sai(Pthe Chamber of Commerce is merQTy seeking information:' Mr. Beierlein asked why the Council didn't wait until after their 1958 budget was made up 'and then see how much more they will need. He didn't feel the Council should put on a tax just because other communities had one. George Cartwright asked if this tax was a substitute for the Admissi.on Tax? He said the'aamission tax did not come out of the owners pocket but the owner was merely collecting it for the City. Ken Schoenfeld asked why the 1957 budget was being balanced in the middle of the year by a new form of revenue. 1he City Clerk_ said the present Grdinance relating to peddlers exdmpts any Veterar, from havn.ng to have a license and all book arid magazine salesmen are covered by inter-state Commerce. Councilman Rupert asked Mr. Beierlein if the city turns down the Ar.?.mission tax-' will the State pick it up? IvIr. BeiErlein said the state might. ENGINEER HEPCRT The City Engineer said that the curb & gutter for LID 130 is over half done. TAXI RATES Councilman Hitchcock said the Taxi Business haa a request into the Council to increase taxi rates since the city has growri so much. It was the Committees recommenc;atian that the request be granted ar,d meters be installed in the Taxi's. It was moved by Kuehn and 2nd by Hitchcock that the re- commendation of the License Committee be accepted and the City Attarney c3raw up the necesJary nrdinances. MOTION CARRIED ENGINEER ESTIMATE It was move:i by Rupert and 2nd by Hitchcock that the Engineers onthly estimate for LID 130 be accepted and payment be authorized. MGT?ON CAkRIED PETITIGN A petition was received from the property owners on $th St. . E. between H St. and K St. N.E. requesting Street lights. • This was referred to the Engineer to work with the Light ommittee with power to act. PLAT ~ The City Clerk submitted a plat f'rom Valley Land recommencing be held up until after the Mead Public Hearing. ~ ASSN. WASH. CITIEa The City Clerk said the regional meeting of the Assn. of Wash ities will be held at Renton at the Towri House, Wed.
