AUBURN. WASHINGTON TUESDAY SEPT. 1957
Regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Auburn,
held at $:00 P.M. in the Council Chambers at the City Hall.
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Clark.
Councilmen present: Hitchcock, Kuehn, Rupert, Stalder and
Raven.
Councilman absent: Petersen.
Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as mailed.
WATER CGMMITTEE REPORT
Councilman Rupert said the Water Committee will have a report
at the next council meeting about the request of Rohr Aircraft.
STREET COMMITTEE REPORT
Councilman Stalder reported for the Street Committee re-
commending that a letter be sent to the F.H.A. explaining the
City's policy on storm sewers in new platted areas.
The City Engineer said the letters have alread.y been sent.
ENGINEER REPORT
The City Engineer asked Councilman Hitchcock why the Urban
Renewal Committee had set certain dates for the city adopting the
different codes, gas, plumbing, etc.
Councilman Hitchcock said the San Francisco office on Urban
Renewal requested the proceedure for Auburn to follow and he
suggested that just the year date be set.
This matter was referred to trie City Attorney and City
Engine er for study and repot back.
ATTORNEY REPORT
The City Attorney said he had studied the request of Rohr
Aircraft for 1/2 the cost of the hook up's on their sewer line.
Councilman Raven felt that it was only right that Rohr be
reimbursed for the sewer and he didn't feel that the city
sh ould collect twice.
Councilman Rupert asked if it would be legal if the property
who hook up to the Rohr sewer line to pay the city and the city
reimburse Rohr.
The Water Supt.said that there is an Ordinance setting aside
this money for the enlargement of the Disposal Plant.
This matter was referred to the Water Committee and the City
Attorney for study and report back.
ADTvIISSION TAX
The City Attorney said he has sent letters to all the or-
ganizations and businesses that are delinquent in their admission
tax giving them until Oct. lst. to pay all delinquent taxes.
ENGINE R RBPORT
The Engineer said that 6th St. S.E. curb & gutter will be
completed this eeek.
WATER PROBI;EM
Jack Grinnell said that the article in the Auburn Sun about
the city water supply was not the thinking of everyone. He felt
that the well was a very good step.
SONNICHSEN REQjtEST
The City Attorney reparted that he had atudied the sick
leave ordinance with the former councilman who had drawn up the
Ord. and recommended that the request of Alex Sonntchsen's for his
sick leave pay be denied.
The City Attorney explained the sick leave ord. to the
,ouncil.

It was moved by Hitchcock and 2nd by Kuehn that the Fark

BUSINESS LICENSE
Councilman Kuehn recommended that the Council consider the
Chamber of Commerce request to help work out a business license
ordinance.
Councilman Raven said that if the admission tax is collectec
then there wontt be any need for a business license since the
Council's reason for a business license was to take care of a
deficit in the 1957 budget caused by the admission tax.
It was moved by Kuehn and 2nd by Rupert that the Council
consider the Chamber of Commerce proposal on the business
license and the License Committee meet with the Chamber of
Commerce Committee and City Attorney to draw up a suitable
ordinance acceptable to the Chamber of Commerce and City Council.
MOTION CARRIED
Councilman Hitchcock thought it would be better to have a
seperate Ordinance repealing the Admission Tax.
TEST WELL
Councilman Hitchcock asked what the anticipated cost of
the well will be.
The Water Supt. said that the drilling, pump, and other
costs will be about $45,000.00
HEALTH DEPT. LETTER
A letter was received from the State Health Dept. about the
chlorination of the Auburn water.
This letter was ordered placed on file.
PET~
A request for street lights was received from the property
owners on 23rd and 24th St. S.E. between M& R St. N.E.
This was re£erred to the Light Committee for study with
power to act.
KING REQUEST
A request was received from Aves King for a Reducing Salon
in her home.
A hearing of the Board of Adjustments was set for Oct. lst
VAN WOLLERY REQUEST
A request was received from Mrs. Van Wollery about a park
or some benches in the middle of tvwn.
This was referred to the Park Board.
MONTHLY ESTINiATE FOR LID 110
The monthly estimate for LID 130 for Carl Nilson & Son was
received.
It was moved by Hitchcock and 2nd by Kuehn that the Engineerts
monthly estimate for LID_130 be accepted and payment be authoriee .
MOTION CARRIED
The r'inal estimate for LID 130 for C. J. Rockey was received.
It was moved by Hitchcock and 2nd by Kuehn that the Water
Supt. final estimate for LID 130 be accepted and payment be
authorized. MOTION CARRIED
COUNCIL BUDGET HEARING
The Council Budget hearing was set for Sept. 24th at 7:30
P.M.
CLAIMS
It was moved by Rupert and 2nd by Stalder that the followfg
claims against the City, all having previously been passed and
signed by the Finance Committee be approved and the City Clerk
be authorized to draw warrants in payment:
