The Mayor asked that everyone stand while Rev. Ledbetter
said a prayer.
Regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Auburn,
held at $:00 P.M. in the Council Chambers at the City Hall.
The mQeting was called to order by Mayor Clark.
Councilmen present: Hitchcock, Kuehn, Rupert, Stalder, Snod
Raven and Petersen.
Minutes of the previous meeting held December 17, 1957 were
approved as mailed.
OPENING BIDS
Bids for supplping the City with gasloine for the year of 1951
were received from Tidewater Oil Co. quoting 22.39 on Regular and
25•34 for Ethyl; General Petroleum Corp. quoting 25.6 for special
and 22.7 for regular; Union Oil Co. quoting 25.6 for special;
and Standard Oil Ca. quoting 22.03 for regular and 25•23 for 5uprei
These bids were refered to the Purchasing Conunittee for studq
with power to act.
LIQUID CHLORINE
Bids for supplying the czty with liquid chlorine for 195$
were received from Penn Salt Co. quoting 11i¢ per lb. F.O.B.
Tacoma and 121¢ per lb. F.O.B. Auburn in 150 lb. containers and
$1.1+5 per ton F.O.B. Tacoma in 1 ton containers: and Van Waters
and Rogers quoting $11.50 per hundred F.O.B. Tacama in 150 lb.
cplinders and 7•25 per hundred in 2,000 lb. drum.
These bids were refered to the Purchasing Committee and Water
Supt. for study with power Lo act.
FUEL OIL
Bids for supplying the City with P.S. 300 type fuel oil for
195$ were received from City transfer quoting $4.40 per barrel;
and Heisserman Fuel Co. quotirig $4.35 per barrel.
These bids were refered to the Furchasing Committee for study
with power to act.
LEGAL PUBLICATION3
Bids for supplying the City with legal publications for 1958
were received fram the Auburn Sun quoting 75¢ per 100 words f or
the lst insertion and no charge for additional insertions of the
same publications; and the Auburn Globe News quoting 90¢ per 100
words for the lst insertion and 70¢ per 100 words for the 2nd
insertion of the same publication.

POLICE CAR
Bids for supplqing the city with a new police ear were re-
ceived from Bothell Chev. Co. queting $1,611.22; Hoyt Motor Co.
quoting $1,250.00 and Scarff Motors queting i1,293•73•
These bids were refered to the Purchasing Committee and Polic
Chief for study with power to act.
MOVING LuCUMuTIVE
Bids for moving the steam locomotive to the City Park were
received from Northwest Hauling Co. quoting $2500.00 and
Shaughnessy & Co. quoting $1,$50.00.
These bids were refered to the Special Locomotive Cemmittee
and Purchasing Cemmittee for study with power to act.
LOADER AND BACKHuE
Bids for supplying the City with a loader and backhoe were
received from Parker Buck & Son quoting $5,166.66 and an alternate
bid of $4,334•$3 on the backhoe; Buck & Son quoting $3,396•$$ an
a Model F. Backhoe and 14,397.14 on a Model E. Loader; Northern
Commercial Co. quoting 13,6$$.60; and Western Tractor and Equip.
Co. quoting $12,400.00.
These bids were refered to the Street Supt. Street Committee
and Purchasing Committee for study with pAr to act.

Councilman Hitchcock reported for the Fire

STREET CUMMITTEE REPURT
Councilman Stalder reported for the Street Committee asking or
more time to study the request of Cottage Cleaners for a parking
space on Main Street. r
GOLF CLUB SIGNS '
Councilman Stalder reported for the Street Comraittee recomme d-
ing that the Gelf Club be allowed to put up signs at the entrance o the
city directing toward Main 3t. and a direction sign be allowed at
East Main and R St. N.E.
It was moved by Stalder and 2nd by Petersen that the recomm~a-
tion of the Street Coeunittee be accepted. MOTIuN CARRIED s
TAXI METERS
Councilman Snodgrass reported for the License Committee re-
commending that the Tauti Company's be given until February l, 195$
te install meters in the taxits.
It was mnved by Snodgrass and 2nd by Rupert that the re-
cammendation of the License Committee be accepted. MOTIuN GARRIED
URDINANCE 1221
It was moved by Hitchcock and 2nd by Kuehn that Ordinance 122
entitled "An urciinance of the City of Auburn, Washington, re-
gulating penalties for violation in Street loading zones and re-
stricting parking zones in the City of Auburn and prescribing
penalties and violation thereof." be intrc,duced and adopted with
the following roll call uote being recerded; Hitchcock, yes;
Kuehn, pes; Rupert, yes; Stalder, pes; Snodgrass, yes; Raven, qeg
and Petersen, yes.
ORDINANCE 1222
It was moved by Hitchcock and 2nd by Kuehn that Ordinance 122;
entitled "An urdinance of the City of Auburn, Washington, amending
Section 7 of Ordinance 1072 which is an vrdinance regulating and
licensing the Cabaret in the Citp of Auburn and previding for pay-
ment of certain Babaret fees." be introduced and adopted with the
following roll call vote being reeorded, Hitchcock, yes; Kuehn, ye;
Rupert, yes; Stalder, yes; Snodgrass, yes; Raven, yes; and Peterser

THQMI►S SUIT
The City Attorney said that Mr. Thomasts Attorney are contin
the suit against the City and the case will come up in court in
about 6 months.
MALASPINA SUIT
The City Attornep said no trial date has been set for the
Malaspina iTrial.
STREET SUPT. REPORT
The Street Supt. reported that the signs on B St. S.E. are up
making it a one way street and the meters have been changed and
the Ordinance has been complied with.
The Street Supt. said the Auburn Ave. Bldg. have hired out-
side painters to strip their parking lot.
LEAVITT CHANDLER REQUF.ST

The Engineer 3aid that Leavitt-Chandler Co. would like the

city ta accept the street in the Green River Homes as soon as
possible.
The Engineer and 3treet Supt. felt the streets were okay and
could be accepted.
Councilman Rupert asked the Citp Attorney if the Ceuncil coul
accept the Streets for Leavitt Chandler since a Bonding Companp
has taken over the project.
The City Attorney said as long as the City Engineer has okaqe
the streets the City can okay them to Leavitt Chandler.
It was moved by Stalder and 2nd bq Petersen that the streets
in the Green River Homes be accepted by the City. MOTIuN CAftRIED
RuHR REQUEST
The Street Supt. said he wauld like more time to study re-
quest of Rohr Aircraft to rent the City Sweeper.
DAGGETT SEWER
The Water Supt. said that the Water Cemmittee had agreed to
pay the plumbing bill for Mr. Daggett.
ADMISSION TAX
The City Attorney said he has sent out notices to the places
that are delinquient in their admission tax.
SOUTH END ANNEXATIQN
Councilman Hitchcock said he had talked with the King Co.
Planning Commission and theq felt the city should annex all the
property to the Stuck River.
The Engineer said the King Co. Plstnning Commission fclt this
area was a good Industrial area fer the city and if it was annexed
to the city then we could control the zening.
Councilman Hitchcock said that according to law a petition
for annexation could be circulated in this area and if it was sign
by 20 percent of the registered voters that voted in the last
election then the City could accept the petition and send it to
the King Ce. Cemmissioners and the matter will be put on the
ballet to be veted on by the voters in this area to be annexed.
It was moved by Hitchcock and 2nd b7 3talder that the Council
has expressed a desire to annex this area if a prc►per electian is
held for annexation and if the propertq owners vote for the
annexation the Council will accept this preperty. MOTIwN CARRIED
SIDWALKS
Councilman Stalder reported that there are a lot of sidewalks
in Auburn that need repairing.
This matter was refered to the Street Committee and City
Engineer to study this problem and make a recc±mmendation and check
up on the old action that was taken by the Council relative to
sidewlak repairs.
CITYtS INSURANCE
' The City Clerk said that Insurance Agents ceme into his office
for information on how much is paid out en damage claims and he
said he has no wap of giving them this information since he doesntt
have it.
Councilman Kuehn said that the City Clerk should refere these
agents to the Cityts present Insurance Agent, for this infermation.
It was moved by Kuehn and 2nd by Petersen that the Cityts
Insurance Agent be directed Lo furnish the Insurance representative
of the Council, inPormatien on claims paid in the previous yeer.

UNITED BLDG. Cu. REQUEST
A letter was received from the United Bldg. Go. requesting
the Council to direct the City Engineer tn issue bldg. permits
for lots 25,26 & 27 in Block 3. A.L. Wolfe Addn.
The Engineer said it is a city policy not to issue bldg. per-
mits when sufficient right-ef-way for a gtreet has not been abtafoe
He said the property owner across the street from these 3 Iots
would not deed the needed 30 feet for~the atreet.
This matter was refered to the Street Committee and City
Engineer for study and report back at the next meeting.
SCHOQL DISTRICT LETTER
' A letter was received fram the Auburn School District in
which they were asking the I{ing Co. Housing Autharity for per-
mission bo rent the Auditorium and Recreatic±n ronm in the Terrace
for class rooms.
This letter was ordered placed on fi2e.
WADDINGHAM REQUEST
A damage claim was received from Mr. Waddingham fnr damages
when the sewer backed up into his basement.
The Street Supt. said it was the City sewer that was plugged.
The Clerk said the claim has been turned c►ver to the Cityts
Insurance Agent.
This letter was ordered p3aced on file.
ST. HIGHWAY COMMISSIuN MEETING
A letter was received from P.J. McKay District Engineer say-
ing there will be a public hearing Januarq 20th at $:00 P.M. in
the Junior High School relative tc+ the location of Primary State
Highway No. 5.
The Mayar asked any of the Council that could to attend.
QUARTERLY REPORTS
Quarterly Reports for Police Court, Cemetery Operatians and
Punchboard and Amse. Games operatinns for Oct., Nov. and Dec. 1957
were received.
These repc±rts were ordered placed on file.
WATER MATN
The Mayor asked the Water Supt. if the break in the 24" main '
ad been repaired. '
The Water Supt. said it had. ;
Councilman Stalder said he thought the main should be replaced~
The Water Supt. said he didntt feel there wae enough right- ~

The Mayor asked the Water Committee to study this and report ~
ack as soon as pnssible.
Street Dept.
The Mayer asked the Street Supt. how the Street Dept. was
oing.
The Street 3upt. said the Dept. was doing fine.
The Mayor complamented the Engineer for the fine wnrk he is
oing.
FIRST ST, N.E.
Councilman Hitchcock said he and cnuncilman Stalder had
oticed the traffic hazard when a car is truning off of B St. N.E.
nto First St. N.E. He said the angle parking is the problem.
This was refered to the Street Ce,mmittee and Police Chief for
tudy and rsport back.
L.I.D. #130 CLAIM
The City Clerk submitted a claim for L.I.D. #130, from Miles
iny for material in the amount of $25$.0$.
