Regular meeting of the City Council af the City of Auburn
held at $:00 P.M. in the Council Chambers at the City Hall. ~
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Clark.
Councilmen present: Hitchcock, Rupert, Stalder, Snodgrass,
Haven and Petersen.
Councilman Absent3 Kuehn
Minutes of the previous meeting held February 1$, 1958, were
approved as mailed.
CLEAN UP WEEK
Mrs. Jangord appeared before the City Council requesting
that Clean UP Week be extended one week so that operation "High
5hine", high school project, could work with Clean Up Week.
After much discussian it was decided that Clean Up Week
would officially statt March 1$, 1958, and the Street Department
would start pickup on March 31, 1958.
WATER COMMITTEE
Councilman Rupert reported that committee had met with Mr,
Wolfe on two occassions within the past few weeks. It was re-
commended by the Water Committee that the contract to employ Mr.
Wolfe be approved.
Mayor Clark suggested they table the motion until the admini
takes over.
It was moved 'oy Rupert and 2nd by Hitchcock that the recomME
of the Water Committee be accepted with the following roll call
vote being recorded. Hitchcock, yes; Rupert, yes; Stalder, yes;
Snodgrass, yes; Raven, yes; and Petersen, yes;
Councilman Hitchcoek stated that he thought that the present
council should complete the project since it is their project.
WATER BILLS
Councilman Rupert b rought up the suggestion of sending water
bills out every two months instead of every month.
After discussion the Council was asked to give this matter
some study.
STREET COMMITTEE
Councilman Stalder reportead that school zone signs will be
erected on K St. S.E. 8c 17th throught 21st.
AUBURN CAB INC.
Councilman Stalder requested the City Clerk to read the motior,
iade on F,,bruary 5, 1957, relative ta taxi stands. Accarding to
he motion no more taxi stands can be erected on NTain Street.
It was moved by Stalder and 2nd by Hitchcock to concurr with
he previous action of the City:Council.

STREET LIGNTS:
Councilman Raven requested that the City Clerk be instructed
o write a letter to Puget Sound Power & Light Company requesting
hem to put up 4 street lights on K St. S.E. from 17th throught
Ist and also a letter requesting a street light to be put up in
he middle of the double block on N S+. S.E.
It was moved by Raven and 2nd by Rupert that the committee

Mayor Glark brought up a request from property owners on Pike
t. S.E. requesti.ng that something be done with a lot which a party
as been building a home on for 7 years. It i.s and eyesore to the
rea and a danger to children.

with the property owners request.
RESOLUTION
It was moved by Rupert and 2nd by Raven that the Resoluition
authorizing the City to sell a certain portion of land to the Hous'ng
Authority of King needed for the improvement of primary State
hiway No. 2 be adopted.
MOTION CARRIED
3RD ST. S.E.
City Attorney brought up about the property on A St. & C St.
S.E. and what property will be condemned. City Attorney requested,
that the atreet Committee be given the power to act in securing
services of a qualify Real Estate for appraisal on brochure form.
It was moved by Raven and 2nd by Rupert to authorized the
Street Committee to secure services of a qualified real Estate
man to work with the City Attorney with power to act.
AMUSEMENT TAX
Councilman Hitchcock asked if the City fittorney had a list
of all the organizations who owed Amusement Tar? City Attorney
stated not yet.
PROPOSED L.I.D.
The Water Supt. stated that he would have to refer the petiti
for a Water Main on J St. S.E. back to the Water Committee due to
the hook on charge requested by Modern Homes. The City Clerk read
a letter from Modern Homes regarding this hook on charge.
This was refered back to the Water Committee, Water Supt.,&
City Attorney with power to act.
STREET DEPaRTMENT
Street Supt. stated that So. End. storm sewer project ics 70/o
completed and should be completed in 2 week.s
ENGINEER
City Engineer stated he has written 2 letters to N.P.R.R. and
received no answer yet about the M St. crossing.
LOCOMOTIVE
Councilman Hitchcock stated that the road bed for the locomotii
s in a different area than he understood it to be.
Mr. Aaby stqted it is where they decided it would be all albng,
The locomotive will be moved starting March 17, 195$•
CYCLONE FENCE
A request from the George Aaby, Chr. of Park Board, for the
urchase of a cyclone fence to put around the locomotive per spec-
fieations. The cost in place would be $1063.76
It was moved by Raven and 2nd by Rupert that the Couricil acce
he fence and have it put up.
MOTION CARRIED
S'TATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH
A letter was received from the Department paying tribute to
ater Supt. B.C. Gosney.
Mayor Clark ordered it `.placed on file.
WADKINS REQUEST
A request from John Wadkins requesting a street ligtlt be in-
talled at 1905 Howard Road, also a Caution or stop light at the
ntersection of Howard Road and Enumclaw Hiway.
The first part was refered to the light committee and the 2nd
art to the street committee to report back at the next council meet

Water Supt. stated that Harry Jorgenson was planning on
attsnding.
ROAERT W. LEWIS
Request from Robert W. Lewis for the rezoning of the present
R--50 residential to R.G. residential.
The petition was signed by 97% of the porperty owners.
This was refered to the planning Commission.
HOUSING & H0ME FINANCE AGENCY
A letter stating if there was any questians concerning any I ~
items on the workable program do not hesitate to call. ~
Mayor Clark said he has talked with the City Engineer on it
and he also appointed a committee to work with him contisting of ~
Stalder, Kuehn, 8c Rupert.
AUBURN TERRACE
Mayor Clark stated he met with around 60 people from tr,e
Auburn Terrace requesting they be given a little more time because
they cannot find a place to live.
AUBURN PRE-SCHCOL P.T.A
The Auburb Pre-:School submitted a request that the administRA'ion
Building not bP destroyed. The Pre-5chool P.T.A. has sponsored a
well-baby clinic there for many years and it is an ideal place
bor this program. a
DAY CAR NURSERY
A letter from Eva E. Robinson requesting consideration be gib n
before destroying the Aministration huilding. It is an ideal plac
for the Day Nursery, which benefits the community vety much.
SOUSING AUTHORITY
A letter was received from the Housing Authority relative to
the future of the Auburn Terrace.
Mayor Clark stated he thought it would be a good idea to put
the terrace on a merit system.
Mayor Clark appointed Rupert, Stalder, and Petersen to work
or_ the problem.
Councilman Rupert wanted to know what value a com.mittee would.
have.
Mayor Clark stated a committPe was needed to help the council.
City Clerk was instructed to run off copies af the memo so tha
each Council member would have a cppy.
LGCAL IMPROVEMET?T REQUEST
A petition requesting a local improvement district for the
purpose of constructing a sanitary sewer on F.ast side of Auburn
kve. was received. Refered to the ~+'`ater Supt. & City Engineer tU ~
investigate and report back. '
REZGiVING
A request for rezoning described property from R-60 to C-1 ~
2ommercial was received from John 4ti'adkins.
Thia was refered to the Plar.ning Commission.
