The Nlayor asked everyone to stand while Fev. Unruh led in
prayer.
Regular meetir.g of the City Council af the City of Auburn,
held at $:00 P.M. in the Council Chambers of the City Hall.
The meeting was called to order by Ilayor_ Denise.
Councilrrlen preserit: Hitchcock, Aaby, Rupert, Stalder, Petersen,
Raven and Towner.
Councalmen absent: None
Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as mailed.

The public; hearzng ;o annex :,o the City of Auburn thP tract
of land which lies immediatly south and west af the south City
limits was declared open.
No one appeared to oppose it so the nearing was declared closed.
It was moved by Hitchcock anci 2nd by Towner to accept the annexa-
tion and the C:ity Attorney be instructed to prepare the necessary
ordinance,

BIDS
' Bids for drilling the well were received from L.R. Gaudio of
Tacoma quoting 016,024.73 & Western Drilling Equipment Co.,$11,139.33•
Councilman Rupert asked if he, the Water Supt, and Mr. Wolfe
could be excused so that they could go over the specifications and
award the bid. They were excused.

LIGHT AT AUBURN AVE.
Councilman Hitchcock reported om the light for Auburn4ve. He ;
stated that he talked to Nir. Gurr and they are waiting for every- ~
thing before they install it and since it is a new type of -light ~
it is hard to get some parts, but they should have it done in about
2 or 3 weeks. ~

Councilman Stalder reported that he and the City Engineer ha<
looked into NIr. Mowre request and the Engineer will have to study
it further.
QRDINANCE #123$
It was moved by Hitchcock and 2nd by Aaby that Crdinance rr123f
entitled An ordinance of the Gity of Auburn'. Washington, declaring
a public emergency to exist and providing for the expenditure of
0300.00 from the current expense fund for the purpose of payment
of the cost of moving the locomotive and tender to the City Park
in the City of Auburn be adopted, with the fol.lowing roll call votE
being recorded: Hitchcock, yes; Aaby, yes; Rupert, yes; Stalder,
yes; Petersen, yes; Raven, yes; and Towner, yes;

Councilman Aaby stated that the Park Board felt the fence was
fine as it is and the novel-ty will wear off so tnat the kids will '
not climb over it. The sigris will be erecteo though. ~I
Mayor Denise stated tha-t the guides are down so they will I
rust soon, he suggested thaty they be painted with aluminun paint.

#1239 entitled An ordinance of the City of Auburn, Washington, re-
latirig to and providing for tne annexation of a contzguous area
of land l.ying adjacent to the south marginal lind of the existing
city limits of the city of Aubu_rn to the City of tiuburn, -vjYiich lani
is described in a petition duly filed with the City Clerk of the
City of Auburn, be introduced.
City Engineer was instructed to get the deed in wftting.

ORDINANCE #1240
It was moved by Stalder and 2nd by Petersen that Ordinance
#1240 entitled an ordinance of the City of Auburi~, Washington
providing for the improvement of a portion of F St. S.E. byt the
construction of conerete curb and gutter ard an asphaltic concrete
surface, all in accordance with a petition signed by a majority
of the affected porperty owners and filed with the City Clerk of
said City and a certification of the City Engineer of said City
that a majority of the affected property owners have signed the
petition and that all of the facts set f orth in said petition are
true and that the estimated vost to the property will not exceed
the limit established by law, creating a local improvemsnt distric
providing for the necessary proposed improvement, prescribing the
mode of payment of assessments and creating a locam irnprovement
district fund and creating a local improvement district therefor,
be introduced and adopted with the following roll call vote being
recorded:Hitchcock, yes; Aaby, yes; Rupert, yes; Stalder, yes;
Petersen, yes; Raven yes; and Towner, yes;

#1237 entitled An ordinance o£ the City of Auburn, Washington, pro
hibiting electric fences in the Citq of Auburn and amending sub-
section section 4, ordinance #1045 be adopted with the followin
roll call vote being recorded: Hitchcock, yes; Aaby, yes; Rupert,
yes; Stalder, yes; Petersen, yes; Raven, yes; and Towner, yes;

It was moved by Hitchcoek and 2nd by Rupert that ordinance
#1241 entitled an ordinance of the City of Auburn, Washington a-
mending section 2 of Qrdinance No. 1175 which ordinance is na
ordinance relating to ttaffic and regulating use of public streets
in the City of Auburn; defining and establishing parking meters
zones; and regulating and controlling and proividng for inspection
of the time time of parking of vehicles therein by the use of park
ing meters; prescribing limits of time for parking in parking mete
zonea; creating in the treasury of the City of Auburn a special
fund to be known as parking Meter Fundtt; and pro*iding for enforce
of this ordinance and penalties for its violation, repealing ordin
numbers $90 and 977 and 1163, be introduced and adbpted with
the following roll call vote being recorded: Hitchcock, yes; Aaby,
yes; Rupert, yes; Stalder, yes; Petersen, yes; Raven, yes; Towner,
yes.
RESOULTION #39
It was moved by Aaby and 2nd by Petersen that Resoultion #39
entitled A resoultion of the City Council of the City of Auburn
resolving that a portion of J St. S.E. in the City of Auburn, shou
be vacated and proper notice thereof be given to all property owne
abutting thereon be adopted with the following roll call vote bein
recorded: Hitchcock, yes; Aaby, yes; Rupert, yes; Stalder, yes;
Petersen, yes; Raven, yes; and Towner, yes.

City Attorney stated he has received no written report yet
expects one at any time from the appraisers.

WATER DEPARTMENT
Water Supt. reported that 4$2" pipe had been laid on Enumclaw
Hiway and 6" pipe from Enumclaw Hiway to 17th St. on:_ J 3+. S.E.
STREET DEPARTMEIdT
George Blinn stated that the storm sewer had been completed.
He also said that he received a request from Don Rottle that on '
3rd N.W. & 3 Rd. N.E. from N.P.R.R. to Auburn Ave. that 24't square''.
signs be erected stating "Slow, Children at Playt". Street Supt
stated that Rottle had purchased the signs but had to have permission
to erect them.
It was moved by Hitchcock and 2nd by Petersen that their re-
quest be refered to the Street Cammittee and Street Department
and Chief of Police with power to act.

ENGI NEER
City Engineer reported about the hole by the American Legion ;
Hall. He stated that he tried to call the owner but no one answer6d
He wrote a letter and should be able to report at the next meeting;

Councilman Rupert recommended that the bid for drilling the
well be awarded to Western Drilling Equipment Co. for $11,139•33 ~
It was moved by Hitchcock and 2nd by Petersen that the bid ~
be accepted. ,
MOTION CARRIE~
Mr. Wolfe stated the Health Apartment approved the location ~
for the well.
TRAILER ORDINANCES
Councilman Hitchcock brought up about the trailer ordinances '
and the City Attorney stated that he has material on trailer ordi+ces
and that;"the Stteet Committee should meet with him to discuss it. i

SELF SERVICE LAUNDRY ~
City Clerk stated that Self Service Laundry request (2) custo'er
parking zones in front of his place of business.
It was moved by Stalder and 2nd by Petersen that it be refere
to the Street Committee and Police Chief with poaer to act.
MOTION CARRIE
AUBURN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
A request from Chamber of Commerce suggesting that Auburn
challenge the rest of the cities in the State for beautification
contest. It would bring quite a bit of publicity to Auburn especi lly
during the Worldts Fair.
Gene Kasper was present to speak for the idea.
It was moved by Hitchcock and 2nd by Petersen to accept the
Chamber of Commerce proposal. MOTIQN CARRIE

A letter from the Chamber of Commerce requesting information
regarding fire ratings.
Waldo Carlson was present to clarify any questions.
It was moved by Towner and 2nd by Hitchcock that it be refer
to the Fire Committee and Fire Chief. MOTION GARRT

A letter was received from Robert P. Morris tendering his
resignativn as Civil Defense Director.
It was moved by Rupert and 2nd by Hitchcock that the resigna-
tion be accepted and Mr. Morris receive a letter of thanks for his

SIDE SEWER LICENSE
A sidef:sdwer license was requested by Fred Madsen. It had
been approved by Tome Bolton Water Supt.
It was moved by Rupert and 2nd by Hitchcock that the Council
approve his request for a side sewer contract.

GEQ. M. KOVACICICH
~
The City Clerk read a damage 3~eport against Cemetery `J~?pt.
He claimed that the Cemetery truck backed into his car while park-
ed on main gtreet.
It was moved by Hitchcock and 2nd by Raven that it be refered
to the Insurance Company for settlement.
City Clerk requested that all Department Heads file a report
of any accidents they have invloving the City equipment.
WATER SUPT. REPORT
City Clerk read a report on 16" C"st Iron Pipe on hand and
what will be needed for this year. He'requested that and emergenc
appropriation, enough money to pay for the pipe to be ordered,
plus 1000 ft. that has been paid for.
It was moved by Hitchcock and 2nd by Rupert that bids be call d
for on June 3, 1958, far 1900 ft. 161' cast iron pipe delivered in
2 lots and emergency appropriations be delayed until bids are open ed

A letter from R.J. Webster attroney about the continued delay
in permitting his use of his property at and adjacent to 307 C St. S.:
If the situation is not brought to satisfactory conclusion within
the 5 days, no choice but to appeal to the courts for relief and
damages.
This was refered to the City Attorney.
FINAL ESTIMATE FOR L.I.D.#132
Water Supt. submitted for approval the final estimate for
L.I.D. #132 the J St. Water Ma.in.
It was moved by Rupert and 2nd by Hitchcock that the final
estimate for L.I.D. #132 be approved.

AUBURN KIWANIS
A letter about the proposed swimming pool and complete mapped
aut program prior to the next general election.
It was ordered placed on file.
PLATdNING CQMMISSION
Stating that public hearing were held on the following re-
zoning petitions granting John Wadkins petition and denying Robert
W. Lewis.
It was moved by Hitchcock and 2nd by Aaby to accept the re-
commendation of Planning Commission.

HEDTAAN COIvSTRUCTION
Submitting for approval a preliminary plot of Olympic Lanes
Add. to Auburn.
It was moved by Hitchcock and 2nd by Petersen that it be re-
fered to the Planning Commission, Water 8c Sewer Supt. Fire Chief
and City Engineer for their approval.
MOTION CARRIED
ASSN OF WASHINGTON CITIES
It was requested that for the convention at Spokane that 2
delegates be elected to vote on any matters at the convention.
Hitchcock moved and Petersen 2nd that the Mayor and City
Attorney be spokPsman.

City Engineer stated that the necessary ordinance have been
adopted but they decided to wait for the new councilmen to take
office.

Renewal Committee be appointed to work on it.
