The meeting was Galled to ordsr by Mayor Denise. - Councilmen present: Aaby, Petersen, Rupert, Stalder, Fitzsimmons and Towner, Prescott. Councilmen absent: None Minutes of the previous meeting held May 26, 1958, were appraved as mailed. NEW CQUNCILMEN Mayor Denise asked everyone to stand rvhile the City Attorney swore in the two newly elected Councilmen, Don Prescott and Kenneth Fitzsimmons. They then took their places at the table. MOTION CARRIED BID3 ~ Bids for Cast Iron Pipe and fittings were received from Unit~d States Pipe and Foundry do. and Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Co;; Hallgren Co. just bid on the Fittings and Pacific Water Works did; not submit a bid. " These bids were refered to the Water Supt. and Water Committpe to study and report. CURB AND GUTTERS A bid for curb and gutters on F St. S.E. from 12th to 17th S.E. was received from Heck and Sons of Kent. This was refered to the Street Gommittee and City Engineer to study and report. CEMETERY Councilman Aaby reported on the increase of charges the Ceme tery Board recommended. It was moved by Aaby and 2nd by Rupert that the recommendati be gut in effect starting Jul.y 1, 1958• MOTION CARRIED WEBSTER PRQPERTY Councilman Stalder stated he met with the City Attornep and ° they decided that the City Attorney make an offer to Mr. Websterf~ Attorney's for h~.s nxoperty. The City Attorney stated he did and they felt they should go over the appraisers regort before they ~ decide, ~ P.S.P. & LIGHT C(}MPANY Councilman Presco°tt reported on the resoultion the light Co. presented for street l.i,gh.ta.ng for a period of ten years. It was moved byPrescott:, and 2nd by Stalder that it be refer to the City Attorney far approval and the Mayor be authorized to sign it. MOTION CARRIED STREET LIGHT Councilman Petersen brought up about the signal light that was tc be installed on lst and Auburn Ave. by the Post Office. He stated it has been quite awhile since they awarcied the bid. The reason it took so long is because they haven't been able to get all the material. City Glerk stated that any contract that the City draws up they should have a time limit on it. This was refered to the Light Committee. s PAGE 2293 SAFEWAY STORES INC. City Attorney read a letter received from 3afeway Stores askir if the street dedication could be made before the store is sold. It was moved by Stalder and 2nd by Petersen that the City ac- quire a deed from Safeway. MOTION CARRIED ELECTRICAI. STE3RM Water Supt. stated that the electrical storm we had ruined 1- 50 horsepower motor and 1-30 horsepower motor. He has taken them into Seattle for repairing and stated that the Insurance willcover it. It also blew the transformer out by their pump house. He stated that he cut a 12" T on M St. & 12th S.E. to supply water during the well drilling. He realized that all bids were hif but that the Tyton is a new pipe and it is the best. He also stated that he hired Mary Jane Tinsley to hel.p out in his office with the billing and etc. He stated he felt she should be paid more than $1.50 and should set a scale for extra help in tl office. This was refered to the Finance Committee. VALLEY LAND REQUEST City Engineer stated that he felt that the City should accept the half paved streets in the A.L. Wolfe addition and the ones that are to be completed in that additionp and in no other addition. It was moved by Stalder and 2nd by Towner to accept the re- commendations of the City Engineer. MQTIQN CARRIED INDIAN TOMtS GRAVE Councilman Petersen brought up about the bad condition Indian Tomfs grave was in and felt that it should be fixed up and turned over to the Park Department. It was moved by Petersen and 2nd by Towner to have the place fixed up and turned over to the Park Department. MQTION CARRIED KING COUNTY HCUSING Councilman Rupert brought up about the agreement the city had with the King County Housing Authority with the approval of estens on if they decrease the units to 130 for next year and no apartment b re-rented after it has been vacated. He felt that the council sho ld get it in writing. City C1erk and City Attorney were instructed to work together on it. AMUSEMENT TAX Councilman Stalder asked the Gity Attorney about the Amuseme Tax. It was moved bq Stalder and 2nd by Rupert that they cancel referal to the assistant legal council and notify them and take t matter up in the City Attornepts Office. MOTION CARRIED CEMETERY DEPARTMENT Mayor Denise complimented the Cemetery Department for the wonderful was they fixed up the Cemetery, by painting the building; and et c . MAYQR PRO-TEM Mayor Denise stated that nominations were open for Mayor Pro- Tem. Councilman Stalder nominated Councilman George Petersen and Councilman Towner 2nd it. It was moved by Aaby and 2nd by Rupert that the nominations b closed. Councilman Petersen was Uhanimously elected. It was moved by Rupert and 2nd by Petersen that the City Attorney send a letter informing them about the crushed rock aver; the wood main and the hazard it brings. : MOTION CARRIED' PURPLE REQUEST A letter from Mrs. Purpls stating that their a11eX i.s blockeld on one side of their property. They would appreciate it if the ; --4 alley coul,d be opened up. It was moved by Stalder and 2nd by ~ Fitzsimmons that the Street Supt. be instructed to open the alley;. MOTION CARRIESi ~ MOOSE REQIIEST The Moose Lodge submitted. a letter requesting permission to display a 14 ft. boat and outboard motor on the City street. Mr. Griffin was present to speak for it. There were no ob- jections to this request. AUBURN CHANIBER OF CONMERCE A letter from Gene Kasper expressing the appreciation of th Chamber for the co-operation the different Department Heads have given the Chamber. It was ordered placed on file. Councilman Stalder stated that a Safeway employee swept the walk and placed the dirt in a container, and he complimented him on it. QUIT CLAIM DEED The King County Housing Authority submitted a deed in favor of the City of Auburn, for a lOft. strip along 12th St. S.E. for acceptance. Zt was moved by Rupert and 2nd by Aaby ta accept the deed and the City Attorney be instructed to record it. MOTION CARRIED WATER WOFtKS GONVENTION A brief reFort on the Water Works Convention by Tom Bolton Water Supt., was read. It was ordered placed on #'ile. ASSESSMENT ROLL #132 Submitted for adoption the final assessment roll for L.I.D/ #132• It was moved b Petersen and 2nd by Rupert that the asses - ment roil for L.T.D. ;132 be approved and the City Attorney draw up the necessary ordinances. MQTION GARRIED FUGET SOUND REGIONAL PLANNING I A letter was received informing the ccuncil about a dinner meeting to be held June 17, 1958, at 6:30 P.M. in the Towne Hous at Rent on. Advise Plan.ning Cornmission of this rr►eeting. ~ PQLLEY REQTJEST Mayor Denise cal.led on Chief Ludwig ta report about the com plaint of noise and the flashing sign at Tubby's. He stated that Nr. Arny carr;e down and stated he would remov trie flashing light. The offi^ers have been down there abaut the noise.
