Regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Auburn,
he1.d at $:00 P.M. in the Council Chambers at the City Hal1..
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Denise.
Councilmen Present: Aaby, Petersen, Rupert, Stalder, Fitzsimmc
Towner, and Prescott.
Minutes of the previous meeting held Vovember 4, 195$ were
approved as mailed.
VERNE a MERRITT REQUEST
The Niayor declared the hearing of the Board of Adjustments
open on the request of Verne A. Merritt for remodeling his fathers
home on E S4-reet int o a daplex.
It was moved by Rupert and 2nd by Aaby that the request be
granted and the City Attorney be instructed to draw up the necessai
ordinance.

GREEN RIVER ORDINANCE
Counr,ilman Fitzsimmons reported that the License Committee
met and they wi11 need legal advice from the City Attorney on
that ordinance.
FIRE CONIMITTEE
Councilman Towner stated he felt since the elections are over
and the fire station bonds did pass they should be thinking about
hiring an architect.
It was moved by Towner and 2nd by Petersen the Fire Committee
be given permission to hire an architect for the new Fire Hall.

RESOLUTION #43
It was moved by Rupert and 2nd by Stalder that Resolution #43
entitled "A resolution of the City of Auburn, King County, Wash.
proclaiming December 7, 1958, as National Civil Defense Day in the
City of Auburn, Wash. be introduced and adopted with the foZlowini
ro1l call vote being recorded; Aaby, yes; Petersen, yes; Rupert,
yes; Stalder, yes; Fitzsimmons, yes; Towner, yes; and Prescott, ye;

It was moved by Rupert and 2nd by Aaby that Ordinance #126$
entitled an ordinance of the City of Auburn, Washington grating a
special property use and permit be introduced and adopted with the
following roll call vote being recorded; Aaby, yes; Petersen, yes;
Rupert, yes; Stalder, yes; Fitzsimmons, yes; Towngr, yes; and Pres(
yes;
WATER SUPT.
Water Supt. reported on the installation on the water main
crossing M St. to Enumclaw Highway. He stated that when they test
it they found 2 broken pieces of Universal pipe and they will have
to go back and take it out.
STREET SUPT.
Street Supt. stated they are making progress on the storm

SEWER in South Dale and should have it completed by tomorrow. He
also stated the paving orl 6th N.E. between 0& R St. is laid and
completed.
CITY ENGINEER
City Engineer reported on the matching funds. He stated there
is not as much money available now. He stated ne wrote a letter
to Mr. Kirry in Olympia asking if he would advise Auburn to drop ~
out or stay. He should receive a reply in a few days.
He stated they had a meeting with the City Attorney establishfng
regulations for companies tearing up the streets, and they should E
have it ready for the next meeting. ~
PLANNING C0T,1MISSION

recommendatian of the Planning Commission for amendments ta improv~
tnd bring up to date the zoning ordinances.
The City Engineer then explained the reasons for these amendm,

Councilman Fitzsimmons recommended that all Department Heads
be notifisd that a complete inventory be made of a11 their equipme
It was moved by Fitzsimmons and 2nd by Rupert that all Depart
Heads make a complete invnetory of all their equipment and turn it
inat the lst of the year, also a copy for all Councilmen.

Councilman Prescott stated he has witness 3 car accidents on
C St. and 4th N.E. with the way the cars park so close to the cor
it makes the street blind.
It was moved by Prescott and 2nd by Fitzsimmons that it be
turned over to the Straet Committee and Chief of Police. for
study.

Councilman Rupert stated another bad street was NI St. by N.P.
R.R. tracks. He stated since the Highway Department haslput up pri
for their bridge you cantt see anything until yaur on the tracks.
City Engineer stated he has notified the State Highway Dept.
Qnd the Railroad stated they would put a cross arm in that would
drop down when a train comes.
FINANCIAL STATENENT
It was moved by Aaby and 2nd by Towner that the City Clerk
supply the Council with a quarterly statement of the financial
standings starting at the first of the year.

Councilman Rupert read a petition signed by $9.92% of the pro.
perty owerns requesting the property on the Enumclaw Highway South
and East of the airport be annexed to the City.
It was moved by Rulart and 2nd by Prescott that a public heariz
be set on December 16, 1958. ;

The City Engineer stated he had a plat of the proposed additi(
of Valley Land and he would take i.t to the various Dept. Heads for
their approval.

FRANKIE RYAN
Councilman Rupert read a request from Lyle Schneidex- for the
Council to consider the petition of Mrs. Frankie Ryan to vacate a
portion of a11ey adjacent to her property.
It was moved by Rupert and 2nd by Towner that a hearing be
set on December 16, 1958.

Councilman Rupert read a letter from Lyle Schneider with a
petition enclosed requesting to vacate a portion of alley.
City Engineer stated it is involved with straightening out
the curve on 9th and C St.
Councilman Rupert also read a letter frDm the Attorney Gener
Office.
It was moved by Aaby and 2nd by Petersen that a public heari
be set for Devember 16, 195$•

Councilman Rupert read a request from Mr. 8c Nrs. Glenn Rupert
requesting permission to remodel their home.
It was moved by Petersen and 2nd by Aaby that a public hearin,

DON ALLISQN
Don Allison spoke to the Council about the advantage of hiri
an local architect for the new Fire Hall. He wouldappreciate
if they would consider him for the job.
CLAIMS
It was moved by Rupert and 2nd by Stalder that the following
claims against the City, all having previously been passed and
signed by the Finance Committee be approved and City Clerk be
authorized to draw warrants in payment.
