Background 124t" Ave SE and 132nd Ave SE Corridors in the vicinity of Green River Community College (GRCC) experience significant peak hour congestion due to the lack of capacity to handle the dense GRCC student arrivals coinciding with normal peak hour traffic. During the 2009 major Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP} update staff analyzed this issue and recommended projects that were ultimately incorporated into the CTP and 6-Year Transportation Improvement Program (TIP}. The new projects include intersection improvements at 124t" Ave SE & SE 320t" St, 124t" Ave SE & SE 312t" St and capacity improvements on 124t" Ave Se and SE 320t" St. Current Development As part of a current on campus improvement GRCC was appropriated funds to complete street frontage improvements. GRCC elected to use these funds to complete improvements on the west side of 124t" Ave SE between SE 320t" Stand SE 316t" St. Staff coordinated with GRCC and processed the improvement plans ensuring that they were consistent with the City's corridor plan. Additionally Valley Regional Fire Authority (VRFA} in planning to construct a new Fire Station at the northeast corner of 124t" Ave SE and SE 314t" St. Staff coordinated with Page 1 of 2 r~~ r n.. l ''A f Y M RMOMMW~4~~~ Wl M 0--F~M ~~M M4,PM:414E~ mr,7 VRFA as well to ensure that their development was consistent with the City's corridor plan. Upon completion of these two projects this summerlfall significant portions of the 124t" Ave SE Improvements listed in the City's CFP and TIP will have been completed. Future Planning & Coordination Staff has also been coordinating with GRCC regarding redevelopment of the northwest corner of 124t" Ave SE and SE 320t" ST for a new Trades Facility. This development will complete additional corridor improvements consistent with the City's planning efforts. GRCC has indicated that construction of the new Trades complex is planned for 2013.
