Re: Lakeland Hills Reservoir 6
This project will consist of constructing an approximately 1-million gallon steel water reservoir in
the Lakeland Hills service area. The reservoir will provide additional storage for normal and
emergency uses, provide storage redundancy, and will allow the existing Reservoir 5 in
Lakeland Hills to betaken out of service for maintenance. A City owned parcel on Francis Court
SE was dedicated to the City for this purpose in 2001.
Design is approximately 30% complete and is anticipated to be finished in March 2011.
Construction is anticipated to be between May and November of 2011.
A neighborhood meeting was held on November 3, 2010 for the proposed Lakeland Hills
Reservoir Project. The aesthetic features discussed at the meeting included a possible mural
and the proposed landscaping. Information regarding murals and the revised, draft landscape
plan for the project are attached.
The attached materials were discussed at the November 15th Public Works Committee meeting.
Per direction provided at that meeting, we are moving forward with a mural similar to Option 3
on the attached materials.

Lakeland Hills Reservoir 6: Mural Information
The reservoir exterior coating and a mural coating would last approximately 25 to 30
years. The mural can be kept, updated, or removed at the time the exterior of the
reservoir needs to be recoated. The mural coating system does not require any additional
maintenance beyond the reservoir exterior coating system. However, the City may want
to pressure wash the reservoir more often to keep the mural clean.
Since the mural does not extend /shorten the life of the coating system and does not
require any additional maintenance, the cost of adding the mural is the initial cost of the
construction and any future replacements of the mural when recoating the reservoir. The
initial cost of construction for the exterior coating of a single color reservoir is anticipated
to be approximately $55,000.
At the November 3rd neighborhood meeting, the possibility of painting a mural on the
reservoir was discussed. We subsequently emailed the meeting attendees ten example
murals and the following three murals are the top picks from the neighborhood. The
anticipated initial cost for each mural is listed below.
Option 1: Single color reservoir / No mural - No additional cost.
Option 2: Additional cost is approximately $45,000 - $50,000.
