Call to Order, Approval of Minutes, Introductions and Approval of Minutes: Chairperson Patricia Judd called the meeting to order at'4:30 pm. Leslie Moore moved to approve the February 2011 meeting minutes and Linda Elliott seconded the motion. All approved. Motion approved II. BRAVO PERFORMING ART'SERIES Commissioner Linda Elliot and Leslie Moore had attended the Mystery and Magic by Rainbow Dance Theater in January and expressed disappointment at the low attendance, but shared, their positive impression of the group and the upmost quality of the dance that the group presented. Maija McKnight presented an overview of the productions under consideration for the 2011- 2012 BRAVO Season of shows that would occur at the PAC. 5-6 presentations will be scheduled from October - April. No performances'.have been confirmed, but discussion ofi diversity of type and attendance were discussed. The performances at the PAC will be packaged together with performances that will occur at the Auburn Avenue Theater to create a full' season of events: Timelines for determining the next season is in June which will allow for adequate time to create a brochure that will be mailed out in mid=August to announce the "season. Maija.McKnight also noted, that there are several partnership opportunities with regional artsorganizations thaf staff is pursuing to broaden our audience base. Discussion and recommendations of performance"s continued. III. Committee/Program Area Report _ Visual Art Committee Commissioner Ronie Schwend reported that the Auburn Valley Creative Arts, The Auburn Downtown Association, and various members of the community have been meeting weekly to plan the first ever downtown art walk scheduled for Friday, May 13 and Saturday, May 14. The art walk on Friday night will be more adult focused with a planned wine tasting and activities extending into the evening. Saturday will,have family friendly activities including a`passport' art stops and various perFormances throughout the downtown., Maija McKnight nofed that staff was attending these meetings when possible to support but not lead efforts where needed. Commissioner Linda Elliot noted that May 14th was the annual Symphony Wine Event Fundraiser. Maija McKnight noted thaf plans are beginning for the plaā¯‘ning of the 3rd Annual ArtRageous scheduled for Saturday,,August.,6, 2011 in Les Gove Park. The art walk planning team is also intending to plan a 2"d Artwalkthe Friday prior, August 5 as a lead up to ArtRageous and partner for, joint promotion. A similar#ocus of hands on opportunities is expected for ArtRageous, but will be opening to vendor applications for artists to sell their artwork onsite: Public Art Committee Gommissioner Tanya Rottle noted the upcoming installafion of the artwork lights in front.of City ~ Hall Plaza. An image of the completed fabrication was shared with the group. Commissioner Rottle also provided an overview of the two new,mural projects staff is cqordinating; Auburn Riverside High School Mural Artist in Residence Program that will:work closely with students: , from the high school to design, and create a mural adjacent to the White River. Trail.extension and an upcoming Clean Sweep Utility Box painting project. Art Education Committee - . Opera in Schools program,this year partnered with Arthur Jacobsen Elementary and the performance is scheduled for Friday, Februacy 4. The mural artist in residence program at Auburn Riverside Nigh School is a great opportunity for program areas to overlap. The professional development workshop for artists has been scheduled for April 9 and 10 - it- is a _ two day workshop in partnership with Artisf Trust to provide in-depth training on the business of being an artist. All committee meetings will be held in City Hall instead of the Parks, Arts and Recreafion Building unfil further notice. , 1V. Other/New/Upcoming Business Maija McKnight repoited hosting the recent SOCO Culture Meeting in which over 30 - represenfatives from Local Arts Organizations were in attendance. Maija McKnight announced fhat the awards for the annual 4Culture Sustained Support have been announced and tfiat we have received the same funding level as 2010. 1Ne were _ insfructed last yea"r upon receiving the award that this year would be greatly reduced, but the 4Culfure panel decided to fund municipalities at the same IeveL CommissionerMoore noted potential new opportunities and discussion continued to restore the re-grant process, McKnight suggested to discuss this at a fufure meeting. Staff M,aija McKnight: noted her attendance at the February 2"d Arts Day - Lobby Day in Olympia fo meef with representatives and talk about issues surrounding the Arts. A report will be shared at a future commission meeting. The Arts Commission Retreat is scheduledfor Saturday, March 19, 10 - 2 pm and;planning involving a moderator as well as City Staff is in process. A survey will, be sent out to Commissioners before the agenda is finalized.
