Re: Downtown Gateway - South Division Street Promenade
Background
As part of the South Division Street Promenade project, a gateway feature will be constructed.
The Downtown Redevelopment Committee reviewed the gateway feature at several meetings
with the Committee approving the gateway design at the December 14, 2010 meeting. The
City's Arts Commission also provided input on the gateway design.
Discussion
At the April 12, 2011 Committee meeting, it was brought up during the matrix discussion how the
approved gateway design, particularly the font, matched with the new City Hall sign at the City
Hall Plaza. The new City Hall sign was designed with block lettering similar to Arial font while the
gateway feature is designed with lettering similar to Times New Roman.
Attached to this memo is the approved gateway feature. Staff will bring the City Hall sign
drawings and a sample of the proposed font for the gateway feature to the April 26, 2010
Committee meeting. At the April 26, 2010 Committee meeting, staff would like direction from the
Committee members on whether to modify the approved font for the gateway feature.
