Tuesday, April 5, 2011 Meeting Minutes
Present Linda Elliott, Patricia Judd, Deborah Deal, Ronie Schwend, Donna Smart, DeNae McGee, Leslie
Moore, Cary Davidson Councilmember Rich Wagner, Arts Coordinator Maija McKnight, Arts and Events
Manager Julie Brewer Excused.Heidi Hams, Tanya Rottle, Greg Watson Unexcused: David Sader .

1. Call fo Order, Approval of Minutes, Introductions and Approval of Minutes: Chairperson Patricia .
Judd called the meeting to order at 4:35 pm. Linda Elliott moved fo approve the March 2011 meeting
minutes with correction of the location and Ronie Schwend seconded the motion. All approved. Motion
approved
II. Auburn Riverside High School - Artist in Residence Mural Project
Rachael Dotson is the Artist in Residence at Auburn Riverside High School. She has been working with
students afterschool with.the Art Club to design a mural that will be painted on the 317' long cement
retaining wall that is parallel to the White River Trail that was recently expanded. Rachael presented her
design and images from the sessions wittth students. Two students participafing in the project, Mercedes
and Nick talked about their experiences. The painting of the wall is weather dependant, but scheduled to
start the last week in April.
11. Support of Local Arts Efforts and Organizations
'Maija McKnight distributed the re-grant application from 2008 with suggested changes indicted.
Commissioner McGee noted that 4Culture had guidelines for the process and wanted to ensure these
changes were in line with any policies. Staff noted that confirmation with 4Culture would occur and
discussion and ovenriew of the application process would continue at an upcoming meeting.
111. Arts Commission Retreat
Staff provided a brief overview of some of the conversations that occurred as part of the retreat and
inquired if there was feedback or resonating comments for discussion Gommissioner Schwend noted that ,
it was a great opportunity to share ideas and establish a benchmark for progress working towards the -
future. Commissioner Elliott noted that participation from the City Planning staff and the Attomey was
valued. Commissioner Deal noted that it was good to have the time to brainstorm about what could be
possible.
IV. Other/New/Upcoming Business
Summary of the recenf and upcoming BRAVO pertormances was provided. The dedication of the City
Hall Plaza is scheduled forApril 12 and all commissioners are invited. The opening dedication for the
Plaza Park is scheduled for May 13 at 4pm which corresponds with the opening of the Art Walk. Thank
you letters from both Uniquely Auburn and Arthur Jacobsen (Opera in Schools Program) were shared.
Volunteer luncheon information was distributed.
There being no further business, the meeting adjoumed at 6:17 p.m.

Next Commission Meeting: Tuesday, May 3 4:30 - 6 pm, City Hall, 25 W. Main, Room 3
