Tuesday, May 3, 2011 Meeting Minutes

L Calf to Order, Approval of Minutes, Introductions and Approval of Minutes: Chairperson Patricia Judd
called the meeting to order at 4:35 pm. Linda Elliott moved to approve the April 2011 meeting minutes and Greg
Watson seconded the motion. All approved. :Motion aoaroved
II. Diversity and Multicultural Projects and Partnerships
Ralph B. Ibarra the Diversity Liaison for the City of Aubum provided an overview of some of the cuReM programs and
initiatives that the Community Services Division is spearheading. Commissioners discussed and brainstormed both
ways to reach diverse audiences and involve diverse populations that reside within Auburn. Councilmember Wagner
requested for the compiled current census data to be shared with the Gommission to'be able to have that information
info.rm fhe program .ming decisions.
II. Support of Local Arts Efforts and Organizations
Maija McKnight provided a brief overyiew of the re-grant process and distributed the application paperwork. The
applications will be due on Monday, June 6, 2011 the applications will be compiled and a funding recommendation
presented at the Tuesday, June 7, 2011 Arts Commission meeting and be voted upon.
III. Public Art Committee
Staff and Tanya Rottle, Chair of the Public Art Committee and Public Art Committee Members provided an overview
of upcoming and current public art projects induding Clean Sweep - Utility Boxes (artist Rachael Dotson), Clean
Sweep - Painted Mural (artist Mau(eio Robalino), Clean 8weep - Installation of panel murals that were created by
Urban Art Works in 2010 Summer that have been displayed at Les Gove on construction fencing moved downtown
across the street from the Soun.d Transif Plaza, Aubum Riverside - Artist in ResidenceM/all Mural (artist Rachael
Dotson), Public Art Gommittee hosted Cath Brunner, Director of Public Art and; initiated the discussion of our Percent
for Art Resolution, Dedication of Sheila Klein`s "Civic Lantems" at the April 1e Dedication, Metal topographicmap by
Bruce Myers is in progress and following the construction.schedule forthe project - anticipated June dedication. .
Discussion on these items continued.
IV. Other/New/Upcoming Business
Julie Brewer, Arts and Events Manager announced that the marketing campaign for the BRAVO Season won the top ~
prize at the recent Washington Recreation and Parks Association (WRPA) conference.
Staff thanked the Commissioners for their involvement in the completed BRAVO season. The 39 Steps which was
the culminating perFormance was discussed and Commissioner Greg Watson provided a description of his
experience volunteering behind the scenes assisting the actors with the multitude of quick changes.
Rachael Dotson, the artist that is serving as the artist-in-residence at Aubum Riverside to create the mural along the
White River Valley Trail will be presented to City Cou.ncil at the May 2, 2011 meeting.
Upcoming events include: Art Walk, May 13 and 14. Symphony Wine and Jazz Fundraiser, May 14.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 5:48 p.m. ,
