Arts Goordinator Maija McKnight, Arts and Events Manager Julie;Brewer, Aubum Avenue Theater Coordinator Jim Kleinbeck, Councilmember Rich Wagner. Excused: Cary Davidson, Linda Elliott, Colleen,Maloney, Leslie Moore, Tanya Rottle, Ronie Schwend Unexcused: David Sader L Call to Qrder, Approval of Minutes, Introductions and Approval of Minutes: Chair Patricia Judd called4he meeting to orderat 4:30 pm._ Due to lack ofa quorum, the September minutes will be approved at the regular November meeting. II. Auburn Community Players Staff Jim Kleinbeck provided a history, overqiew, and description of the Aubum Community Players (ACP) program and upcomingproductions. Now in its second year, the Aubum Community Players is a City program through the Aubum Avenue Theater3hat produces quality theatrical perFormances with local actors. Formed in iesponseto the demise of Aubum Regional Theater, a separate non-profit that rented the theater for this purpose, the ACP arose to fill the need to support locai actors and provide opportunities both to participate and for the public to enjoy quality, local theater. Since the implemeMaUon of this projed,ACP have presented "Into the Woods" in 2009, "Bye Bye Birdie in.2010"and currerrtly"Wiiard of Oz" and "Footloose" is planned for 2012. Commissioner Greg Watson inquired if part of the mission was to present musical theater, to which Kleinbeck noted that 'straight plays' are harde�to §ell and so have chosen those to date. Counc'tlmember Rich Wagner inquired if there is outreach to schools for student involvement in this program. Julie Brewer noted that.the program inVolves youth, but twice yearly Theater Camp is the youth version of this program in which iMerested students can grow into ACP involvement. Councilmember Rich Wagner also asked if fhere was gran4ing opportunities for thistype of program. Jim Kleinbeck noted, that seeking g�ants for this program has not been explored. Commissioner DeNae McGee inquired to the budget of this program, to which - Kleintieck noted the total amouM budgeted is $12,000 which includes the royalty fees, contracting with a di�ector, costuming, and set pieces. It has been a popular program with the ticketsales in all cases covering or exceeding the cost of the program. III. BRAVO PerForming Art Series Marketing Julie Brewe�distributed a copy of the marketing plan that was compiled for the 2011-2012 Performing Arts Season. Conversation continued on strategies to build new audiences for the number of programs that are scheduled for the year: Discussion involved various strategies to connect with the Aubum School District students, new trends and technology, and working with organizations for specific programming that have a thematically conneded clientele or program area. IV. Updates and Upcoming Events The creation of#he Foet Laureate position will be going to Council on Monday, October 17. Staff will be working to put togethe�a selection panel to meet iri early December to forward recommenda4ions to the Mayor: Please contact Maija if you are interested in serving on this panel. At the November meeting business will include a nomination of the vice-chair position with voting occurring at the December meeting. The opening of the Activity Center and Gymnasium is scheduled for Tuesday, Odober 11, 5—8 pm witfi remaMcs and a dedication at 6 pm. The artist Bruce Myers will be in attendance. The Fianning and Community Development Committee (PCDC)„the Gouncil Committee to which the Arts Commission reports;will be meeting on,Monday, November_14, 5:30 pm in the City HaII Annex, 2nd Floor. 'fhe agenda will include the Arts Commission's annual report and Arts Commissioner attendance is encouraged. • Commissioner DeNae McGee noted that the Aubum Symphony peiformance of Ah, Youth! — October 8/9, Saturday at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 230 pm. ' . Greg Watson noted that he_has been in several meetings regarding 4he planning of a Japanese_ Art exhibition for the VUhite River Valley Museum in the Spring of 2013. Julie Brewernoted thatthere are several calis for artists available including for thg City Hall Galleries and the new program for Storefronts Aubum. V. Ottie�/New/Upcoming,Business .
