Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 11:05 am by Bryce Landrud. Those board members
attending in addition to Mr. Landrud were Lonnie Sundal and Jan Speer. Also present at the
meeting were Parks Horticulturist Richard Valenti, and Parks Secretary Julie Mehl.
Minutes
The February meeting minutes unanimously approved. The March minutes approved with
following change: the Green Vase Zelkova tree for Arbor Day is donated by the Auburn Garden
Club, the Triumph Elm is donated by the Urban & Community Forestry Program in cooperation
with the U.S. Forest Service.
III. Correspondence/Public Input
Jan Speer would like the Tree Board to lead by example, she wants to educate citizens that the
board is not the tree police', we are here to educate, promote the neighborhood tree planting
program, and aid code enforcement with tree related issues.
Bryce welcomes Richard Valenti, Auburn Parks Horticulturist.
Jan expressed her disappointment regarding the 'post winter storm tips' article not being picked
up by the Auburn Reporter. Flyers were not printed up as it did not get approved by Parks
Director Daryl Faber. Bryce would like to see links to Tree Board information on the city
website such as ISA website link, significant tree information & history, Arbor Day information &
history. He also noted he was not able to find the press release regarding post storm tree care
on the city website.
IV. Old Business

VI. Board Recommendations/Input
Karen Wright has resigned from the board as of 3/27/12. Julie Mehl will make sure we
advertise for the two Tree Board open positions. Bryce added he would like to see local HOA
citizen(s) on the board.
Jan suggested we have a booth at the 4th of July event. Bryce will look into staffing the booth
(providing pamphlets, educating citizens etc). Jan also recommended having a presence at the
Auburn International Farmers Market booth. Julie Mehl will look into.
VII. Department Report
Richard reports there is a neighborhood tree planting in memory of Cameron Christian. They
will be planting one Blue Giant Sequoia and two Weeping Alaska Cedars near the Auburn Golf
Course at the end of 100th street in a gated community. Jan asked if Rich reviews these plans
and he responded yes, he drew up the design. A press release will be written.
R Street tree update — Richard reports the trees are going downhill as a result of the January
winter storm, they will continue to decline and lose their former beauty. The Street
Department is responsible for the trees, Bryce adds they most likely won't take action unless
the trees begin to affect the street.
Median report — Richard reports various medians will now be maintained by the Parks
Department (formerly maintained by Street Dept). The median on R Street will be planted with
Thundercloud Blooms. Bryce suggested 'Purple Pony' trees as they grow 6 — 8" per year and
stay small.
Eight cherry trees are to be planted at the new Auburn Valley Humane Society per Richard.
Quotes are being reviewed/processed.
VIII. Adjournment
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 11:58 am.
