VII. Department Report (Faber)
The Auburn Environmental Park is having it's Grand Opening on Thursday, April 5 at 2:30 pm. Julie
Parascondola and David Domenowske will attend.
The Parks Policy & Procedure guide is in the process of being updated. Policy #3110 previously allowed
alcohol at the Golf Course and Senior Center Millenium Room only. The policy now includes alcohol being
allowed at The Auburn Avenue Theater (for comedy shows), The Mary Olson Farm (for Hops & Crops
event), Les Gove Activity Center/Gymnasium, and Plaza Park (for downtown wine walk events). Julie
asked if the city would take a percentage of alcohol sales, Metro gets a percentage if sales are over a set
amount for large events. Daryl is looking into, Julie will forward Daryl Metro Parks policies regarding
alcohol at Tacoma locations/events.
Canopy rentals are being considered for future Park Board Policy updates, Daryl will update board
accordingly.
There is one vacant position on the Park Board, one application has been received and is being
considered. Julie Mehl will forward to all Park Board members for review, we will also advertise the
opening.
The new Rec Guide was released online March 2, mailed to households March 9. The Soundbites event is
new this year, to be held Fridays in July at noon at City Hall Plaza. The Kids Summerstage events will
occur on Wednesdays in July and August at Les Gove Park. Summer Sounds & Cinema will be held at
Sunset and Les Gove Parks on three Fridays in August. We have a Bravo production 'Magician Steffan
Soule: Dreams, Magic and Miracles' on Saturday, April 21, he is a Vegas style performer who has been
recognized with a Kennedy Center Award and featured on national and international television.
The activity center has been busy with Birthday Party Packages, senior volleyball, after school programs,
and a bocce event. The sound is great (low amount of echo) as a result of the sound absorbing panels.
The Golf Course restaurant "Copper Falls" has a new manager who has created new incentives and lower
prices. Previous meals costing $18 are now down to $14. Fridays will now include Prime Rib and Jazz.
The Lea Hill Park renovation project will be going out to bid next month
