IV. Public Art Discussion
Maija McKnight handed out a public art opportunities listing that was compiled as part of the
April Commission meeting. The commission discussed priorities for this year's expenditure
towards the creation of new public art. Lea Hill was identified as top priority because 1) it is an
area that does not have any public art located within the neighborhood 2) the new construction
of the park allows for artist involvement to have input on placement/park design for an
integrated approach. Susan Black, SB &A Landscape Architects will be attending the public art
committee meeting on May 8t" and would like to move forward based on the conversation during
the committee meeting. Leslie Moore moved that the commission let the Public Art Committee
determine if the Lea Hill Park is a priority for the recommendation of funding for a new public
artwork. Coleen Maloney seconded the motion. Motion Approved.
V. Clean Sweep Mural Design Review
Maija McKnight provided an overview of the mural that would be created as part of the Clean
Sweep event on May 5, 2012 in downtown Auburn. The design and planning process took into
consideration volunteer participation, the property owners comments as well as with the Poet
Laureate, Dick Brugger's poem that will be painted as the main focus of the mural. The artist
Chris Sharp was selected from the mural artist roster that was developed through prior calls,
based on his experience and expertise with typography and large scale signs. Examples of his
prior work was distributed for context, and a mock -up of the mural was distributed.
