Present: Nancy Colson, Cary Davidson, Nickole Evans-Buck, Heidi Harris, Patricia Judd, Colleen

I. Call to Order,Approval of Mi�utes,Introductlons and Approval ot Minutes:
Chair Ronie Schwend called the meeting to order at 4:30 pm. DeNae McGee moved W approve the
December 2012 meeting minutes. Dan Norman seconded the motion. All approved. Motion anoroved.
Nancy Colson and Laura Westergard were welcomed as new arts commissioners that were appointed by
council at the January 7, 2013 Council Meeting.
II. New Members and Term Limit Discussion
Staff Maija McKnight distributed a contact sheet of all the arts commissioners including each person's
appointment date and tertn expiration date. Staff explained that Commissioners are appointed by Mayor
and approved by Council. Each term is three years in length and commissioners can serve two terms,for
a total of six years total of service. At which time, the commissioner is invited to re-apply after one year of
time has passed if they so choose. The application process is competitive and selected by the Mayors
Office. The term limit was implemented by the adminishation in 2008. Commissioner McGee noted that
by having term limits allows for a broader spectrum of people to participate and new ideas and energy
Commissioner Colson noted that prior to term limits many of the same individuals had served since the
fortnation of the Commission.
III. Year in Review
Staff Julie Brewer distributed the Parks, Arts and Recreation Year in Review publication that provides a
summary of the City's parks programs and initiatives. The Culfurel Arts page highiighted the Downtoxm
Sculpture Gallery, StorefroMs Aubum, and attendance highlights and numbers.
IV 2013 Planning and Projects
Staff Maija McKnight distributed a document that provided an overview of upcoming programs,and
projects. OuHined and discussed was the 2013 Arts Project Support Re-grant, BRAVO 2013-14
Perfortning Arts Season, Public Art projects including the Community Center, Lea Hill Park and The Long
Look, and the schedule of artists for the two City managed galieries. Staff noted that in future meetings
each of these topics would be discussed in more detail at future meetings.
Staff noted that the Arts NW Booking Conference would be held in Tacoma, Washington from October
17-19 and that it may be a good opportunity for a small group of commissioners to attend if interested.

Commissioner Colson inquired ff there were any plans for recognizing Poetry Month in April. Staff shared
information about a mobile app STQRY that is method for a mobile public art guide that many other King
County Cities are participating. Commissioner Westergard noted potential partnerships for creaHng
downtown events centered around a BRAVO perfortnance.
V Updates and Upcoming EverKs
Staff McKnight provided an overview of the many programs that are occurting in partnership with the
City's presentation of Pride and Prejudice. A temporary website has been set up,
www.auburnlovesausten.com that provides a listing of all related programming.
Commissioner Evans-Buck noted that Uniquely Aubum would be held on Sunday, January 27
Commissioner McGee noted that the Symphony would be performing on January 19&20
Commissioner Colson noted that Sherman Alexie wiil be speaking at GRCC on January 31
There being no further business, the meeting adjoumed at 5:55 pm
