HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-05-2013 (2)City of Auburn Arts Commission, City Hall Annex, One Main, Conference Room 1 Tuesday, February 5, 2013 Meeting Minutes Present: Cary Davidson, Nickole Evans -Buck, Heidi Harris, Colleen Maloney, Leslie Moore, Dan Norman, Ronie Schwend, Greg Watson, Laura Westergard, Council Liaison Rich Wagner, Arts Coordinator Maija McKnight, Arts and Events Manager Julie Brewer. Excused: Nancy Colson, Patricia Judd, DeNae McGee Guests: Scot Pondelick I. Call to Order, Approval of Minutes, Introductions and Approval of Minutes: Chair Ronie Schwend called the meeting to order at 4:30 pm. Commissioner Moore moved to approve the January 2013 meeting minutes. Greg Watson seconded the motion. All approved. Motion approved. II. Arts Project Support and Regrant The City of Auburn receives Local Arts Agency Sustained Support Funding through 4Culture, the King County Cultural Services Agency. The funds are drawn from county Hotel /Motel tax revenues. Each year the 4Culture Board of Director's adjusts the grant awards on a "sliding scale," based on the annual level of tax revenue received. In 2013, the City allocated a portion of the funding received to go towards supporting programs produced by other community -based arts organizations that serve the citizens of Auburn and /or that raise the profile of Auburn as an arts and entertainment destination. A grant application to request funding was distributed and published in early January with the deadline of January 30, 2013. Copies of the nine submitted applications were distributed and the Commission reviewed the grant application criteria. Discussion of each applicant and project occurred. Commissioner Cary Davidson moved that the funding amounts granted to be as follows • Auburn International Farmers Market , Performances /artists participate on selected Market days - $2,000 • White River Valley Museum Small Works, Big Presents: The Gift of Art - $2,000 • Auburn Symphony Orchestra Sunset Chamber Series at the Mary Olson Farm - $2,000 • Auburn Art Walk printed materials and signage - $1,000 • Uniquely Auburn, Community Event and talent show culminating in a free dinner - $2,000 • Striped Water Poets, Monthly "Poetry at the Station Bistro" - $1,000 • Northwest Renaissance Poets, April Poetry Workshop and Reading - $900 Commissioner Nikole Evans -Buck seconded the motion. All approved. Motion approved. Organizations that requested funding but were not funded include Pacific Ballroom Dance and the Great Western Concert Association. III. Updates and Upcoming Events Staff McKnight provided an overview of the many programs that are occurring in partnership with the City's presentation of Pride and Prejudice. A temporary website has been set up, www.auburnlovesausten.com that provides a listing of all related programming.
