Commissioner Ronie Schwend and Colleen Maloney presented the top three posters that were selected
as part of a "popular choice" on the market's opening day and presented the one recommended by the
Visual Arts Committee to serve as the poster for the 2014 Auburn International Farmers Market. The
artwork was done as part of Auburn High School Graphic Design Class taught by Diane Saar. Nancy

appreciation and gratitude to all the participating students and were impressed at the quality and diversity
of artwork presented.
IV. Public Art
The reinstallation of The Long Look has been rescheduled to September 13, 2013 to accommodate the
schedule of the artist.
Maija McKnight provided a summary of the sculpture selections that were made at the previous
commission meeting that will be part of the Downtown Sculpture Gallery. McKnight presented a map and
of the pedestal locations and discussion continued to where each of the pedestals will be placed. Staff
noted that one of the pedestals (located on Main and A Street SE) would not have artwork placed
because of the adjacent construction and unknown timeline and impact upon accessibility and safety of
the artwork. Discussion of temporary and /or student artwork that potentially could be placed there once
the schedule /impact is known. Staff also reported that because of the redevelopment of the block the
construction includes two additional pedestals to be built on the block that will accommodate artwork in
future years.
The permanent location for the "people's choice" artwork Riparian Totem was discussed. The Public Art
Committee recommended a location adjacent to the Auburn Justice Center. The location was selected to
have the sculpture remain downtown and be included in future Downtown Sculpture Gallery publications,
scale appropriate to the size of the sculpture, and addresses the security and lighting need. Staff noted
that this location was reviewed by Parks maintenance staff for re- landscaping as well as the Police
department.
