Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 2:01 pm by Chair Bryce Landrud. Additional board members attending were Lonnie Sundal, Marsha Goodwin and Jan Speer. Arnie Galli is absent/excused. Also present at the meeting were Parks Maintenance Manager Mike Miller, Parks Horticulturist Richard Valenti, Environmental Planner Jamie Kelly and Parks Secretary Julie Mehl. II. Minutes The July Tree Board minutes were approved. III. Correspondence/Public Input IV. Old Business (Landrud) The 4°i of July booth was in a good location, Richard Valenti brought some trees but it still was nof an effective venue for the Tree Board. Only about six people stopped by the booth and they chatted about their tree issues or political agenda. Bryce was unable to encourage anyone to apply for the open board position since it's mainly an event for I<ids. Another idea woulcl be the Auburn International Farmers Market for next summer, it seems like it would be a much better fit. Julie will talk to]oanne Macnab, the Market Manager to arrange something for a themed week. Bryce will be giving a Tree Board update to the Planning & Communiry Development Committee on October 28'". He will report on the following: Heritage Tree Nominations, our assistance in re-foresting the area, 'do not top trees' message, Arbor Day tree planting, raising awareness of trees and work with city departments in a supporting role. 60 years from now our legacy will be the mature and stately trees throughout Auburn. We also reach out to Auburn HOA's to offer support and tree care tips. Heritage Tree Nominations — Bryce is unable to contad anyone at GSA as a result of the recent Government shut down. The folks on 4`' haven't retumed Bryce's calls. Folks tend to think they will be limited to maintaining their trees once they have reached Heritage Status, but that is not the case. There is an Alaskan Cedar at Les Gove Park that would be a nice Heritage Tree. The City saved the tree from being removed durig the addition of the gymnasium so it's got a nice story behind it. ]ulie will try to put it through the next council meeting. Marsha asked what qualifies a tree for Heritage status. The tree must be healthy, around 75 years old minimum, nicely maintained and have a nice shape. Mike Miller would like to see an album put together with photos and information on each tree which we have nominated since the Tree Board began in 2004. V. FulmerUpdate-The North end of Fulmer Park has been cleaned up, 6"of topsoil added, Ieveied and irrigation installed. This project will connect the two flelds with a nice path.
