Tuesday, April 1, 2014 Meeting Minutes
Present: Nancy Colson, Charlotte Gollnick, Jan Jensen, Colleen Maloney, Dan Norman, Feney Perez,
Ronie Schwend, Donna Smart, Laura Westergard, Greg Watson Arts and Events Manager Julie

1. Call to Order, Approval of Minutes, Introductions and Approval of Minutes:
Chair Colleen called the meeting to order at 4:30 pm. Commissioner Jensen moved to approve the
February 2014 meeting minutes. Commissioner Schwend seconded the motion. All approved. Motion
approved.
2. Green River Community College Foundation — Interurban Center for the Arts
Informational Presentation
Commission welcomed Leinani Rogala, whom provided an overview of the Green River Community
College Foundation — Interurban Center for the Arts. The Green River Community College Foundation
sponsors the ICA Art Docent program, which provides training and resources for volunteer art docents in
30 elementary schools throughout seven school districts and serves more than 14,000 K -6 students
annually. Trained volunteers visit the classroom once a month from October through May (eight lessons)
for approximately an hour. Each lesson covers one influential artist and their work, some basic art
concepts, and ends with an age- appropriate hands -on art project. Discussion continued.
3. Public Art
Julie Brewer provided an overview of the current 1 % for Art Ordinance as well as the additional Capital
Projects Public Art Funding. Commissioners were asked to discuss and brainstorm potential future public
art projects and site locations. Some major themes that arose included highly visible iconic sculpture,
interactive art, honoring Auburn's history, encouraging private developers to create public artwork as part
of new development, entryway artwork into Les Gove Community Campus, and other ideas were
discussed.

• Visual Art Committee will meet on Wednesday, April 16, 4pm, City Hall Annex
Commissioner Laura Westergard shared that the newest "Streetscape Auburn" artwork was installed the
weekend prior. Artwork by Sarah Lovett is on display that showcases her large scale puppets.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 5:30 pm
